Jess has a perfect explanation…he, I mean I promise. Crosses fingers.
As he stood at the door, he knew this was the moment of truth. His explanation was clear, and he had no regrets. Although the way he pictured Lorelai answering the door was in no way what happened. It wasn't her that opened his destination; it was Rory. Perfect. "Can we talk?"
Automatically his hand covered in his pocket, his eyes locking upon hers as she stood there in the frame of the door. "Come in." She relented, letting him in.
His hand continued to play with the black velvet box but he decided until he could get that explanation out in the open he wouldn't further this decision. Turning towards her, he began. "What you saw Rory was not what you thought."
Rory's face flushed anger momentarily, as she closed the door quietly. There was no reason to wake up her mom, who had knowingly gone to bed almost a half an hour ago. "No? You guys looked pretty cozy together. Who is she Jess?"
"Lanie is an old friend. We went to school together. She owed me a few favors here and there. Decided to finally take her advice…" Jess smiled shyly, something she had never seen before. But despite it Rory crossed her arms together. Rory looked up towards the ceiling and when she looked back he was on his knees, holding a black velvet box.
"Rory, I can promise that I would never cheat on you. You're the one I want to be with, you're the person I want to spend every waking minute, every day and second with. Lanie is a friend and a friend only. Both of us seemed to think that you'd like this." Her eyes widened, hands unfolding slowly as the box opened with that new box sound. "And I'd be honored, if you'd be my wife."
Her eyes trailed up the stairs where her mom was peeking down towards them and she looked back at him with a thoughtful smile. "Rory Mariano. The more I say it, the more I like the sound of it."
"Please say that I can consider that a yes."
She stepped closer towards him. "No. But then again I know that I can give you more than a yes." With a smile their locks lipped as he held tightly onto the box.
"I'm sure you can." He mumbled, putting his arms around her, before very slyly slipping the ring on her finger.
