The worst thing
Damon sat in the Living room (/ parlor/ Sotheby's auction) of the Salvatore household, with a glass of bourbon in his hand. The fire was blazing in the fireplace and his raven black hair was ruffled due to lack of effort on his part. He sighed as he heard the annoying high pitched voice of a certain blonde, newbie vampire that he really didn't want to talk to at that particular moment. "Damon!" Caroline called. Great. She was clearly angry about something.
Damon looked up from his glass of bourbon to meet her angry blue eyes, putting on a perfect pantomime of innocence. "What can I do for you, Caroline?"
"Don't act like you haven't done anything! I can remember what you did to me, Damon!" Caroline fumed, pointing a finger at him and stamping her foot in a very Caroline-like manner.
Damon widened his bright blue eyes and stared at her in mock confusion.
"You hurt me and abused me and then made me forget. You literally messed with my mind!" she yelled.
Damon shrugged his shoulders and took a sip of his drink. "Well... Why don't you just forgive me?"
"This isn't something I can just forgive you for, you douche!" Caroline retorted, clearly offended. "But you know what the worst thing you did to me was?" she continued, "On top of the abuse and the mind control and using me." She paused looking too hurt and offended to continue.
Damon raised his eyebrows in a silent 'go on.'
Caroline took a deep, calming breath and fixed Damon with such a look of contempt on her face that he actually began to worry he'd done something truly horrific- more horrific than usual, that is. "You..." she said and then fell silent again.
Damon sighed and swallowed the rest of his bourbon in one mouthful before getting another and making himself comfy, sensing this could take a while.
"You made me..." Caroline began again. "You made me help Elena in the kitchen!"
He couldn't help it. Damon was half way through a mouthful of Bourbon when Caroline finally blurted out what 'the worst thing he had done to her' was and he couldn't help but laugh, spraying his drink all over the couch. Hurrah, more cleaning. "Me making you clean dishes, is worse than being used?" He asked, trying hard not to laugh (though what he wanted to do was roll on the floor laughing).
Caroline nodded seriously, looking very hurt.
"Oh Caroline," he sighed, putting his hand on her cheek making her recoil away from him. "You really do have some problems."
"Bit rich coming from you," Caroline replied disdainfully.
Damon shrugged, still trying not to laugh. "Well I'm sorry," he finally managed to choke out.
"Thank you. I'll take your apology into consideration." Caroline flicked a blonde curl over her shoulder and took a step toward the door before turning back t Damon and saying, "Now, if you don't mind, I have a party to plan."
Damon raised his glass to his lips, still chuckling slightly. "Good bye, Caroline," he said, finally returning to his lonely drinking, strangely in some-what higher spirits.
