Rena's Promise
He stands in front of me, drawing closer as his smile brightens my dark soul.
"Rena…" he murmurs as I grasp his hand.
"Keii-chan…" I can't help but blush as the cicadas circle us in the sky, forming the shape of a heart in the sunset sky.
He gestured for us to sit on soft, short verdant grass below our feet. I nodded and obeyed him.
"Rena…I love you…" he stared into my eyes, sincere, yet joyful.
I squeezed his hand harder. He giggled and glanced out to the lake before us. The sun dipped onto the water as it calmly flowed toward the shore.
"Rena's been doing bad things lately," I admitted.
"It's okay. I've done absolutely horrid things lately, too."
"But no matter what Rena does," I took a deep breath, "Rena will always love you. That's a promise!"
"Yeah…Since we love each other, doesn't that make us lovers?" his expression loosened and as he blushed as well.
"Yeah. I guess. Rena wants to be your lover, anyway."
He began laughing. I couldn't help but follow suit as we held hands while the sun kissed the earth. Keii-chan and Rena will always love each other, I thought, always.
