Mission

By Dark Ice Dragon

Sigh! Sun used a hand to clasp the collar of his cloak tighter around his neck, keeping the hood secure and up. It wouldn't help with everything else, but it made him feel better.

Why was he, the Sun Knight, chosen for this particular mission? Couldn't they have chosen someone else? Surely there was one person more qualified to do this than he was! But the Pope had been adamant that he go, stating dribble about 'no-one else finding out' and 'utter secrecy' and 'it would be faster if you were to do it'. Sun definitely agreed on the first two points, but not so much on the last one.

Now, where was that entrance...

"Miss?" someone called out behind Sun. "Miss?"

Sun froze, hand tightening further. Slowly, he turned around, frantically trying to see the person without revealing his face. This was such a stupid mission! He was going to get caught straight away!

The woman in front of him was shorter than him, had long, straight brown hair that matched her eyes. She was also twice his age, so he didn't bother recording her. What caught his attention was the fact that she was wearing the same cloak as he was, from the clasps right down the stitching of the bottom hem.

Seeing him turn around, the woman smiled. "Pull down your hood," she said, a firmness in her voice that expected to be obeyed. "The sun is out so there's no need for it."

Hesitantly, Sun reached up, his heart beating like the hooves of a stampeding horse, and with the edge of the hood in two hands, he brought it back, watching the woman's face for the second that she recognised him. His teacher was going to send him to the God of Light when this reached his ears!

As expected, the woman's eyes widened at the sight of him. "Ah," the woman sighed, putting a hand up to her cheek, "you really are pretty."

What? Sun gaped her (not very elegant of him, he knew, but in that situation he could be forgiven for doing so, especially as he wasn't walking around as the Sun Knight) as she closed the gap between them and started running her fingers through the hair that had escaped the confines of the hood.

"It's as if you were touched by the God of Light," she murmured. "And your dress really brings out your eyes." Taking a step back, the woman then eyed him critically. "We may have to give you something to accent your features, something around your hair, but, yes, you will be a good addition." She turned away. "The entrance is only in the other street. Come along."

Sun stared at her, wide-eyed, in utter disbelief about what had just happened. Maybe this could work? He just prayed to the God of Light that the rest of the mission would go so smoothly!
