So I'm rewriting the entire story. Seeing as I don't like it as it stands.

Alice and Juris were never adopted, perhaps it was the way Alice read people in the way only methodized by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, or the way Juris fought like a caged dog in the face of adversity. Either way it put people off, after Alice deduced three sordid love affairs, one abuse case, and five families that wanted exact carbon copies of dead children. The orphanages they've inhabited were… fairly nice, and the CPS caseworker they had ("Mrs. Penny") was a chronic smoker, a recovering alcoholic, mother of three, keeper of two dogs (woolsworth and swarther), wife to a regional banker (Whose affair wasn't at all surprising), and a surprisingly hard woman to knock down. They were found abandoned on the side of an English farm-road, in white sleeping gowns, not a memory in sight except for their names. They were whisked away to the first orphanage, a broad tall church building with four nuns and ten other children, they didn't stay long, not after Juris beat up four other girls for picking on a small lanky little thing named Eustace Parker; and Alice went around taking people apart while keeping a list with her strange tendencies for even strange comparisons.
When Alice turned eighteen she technically "kidnapped" Juris and moved to America, well, moved to Portland, Oregon. Alice worked in a small organic coffee and library shop, which only hipster people, middle aged yoga moms, wandering drifters, select youtuber, and some teenagers who explore the town. Juris went to school, she was only twelve. After school Juris would walk three blocks to Quill's, the store where Alice worked; and she'd read, a lot. Alice, after years of people telling her to mind her own business would write her deductions in a leather bound journal she bought at a small craft store. Alice bought a small plot of land far from town with the money she lifted from her past orphanage managers. Juris designed a mobile tiny house and Alice built it, with recycled materials, old wood from an abandoned barn, discarded sheet metal from a construction company, a natural rain tank, with natural draining, a compost toilet, so much more and Juris' obsession with plants. Juris grew their own crops, as she was a strict vegan, Alice was not. After she tried the vegan life she gave in after a minute.
Their home wasn't at all big, Juris had her own room and Alice had the loft ("incase if an intruder doesn't expect me to jump down and beat some ass"), the kitchen/Juris' bedroom was underneath the loft(Alice's flooring was a grill floor, always warm and never dirty). The living room held the entryway, the softest sofa Juris ever slept on, a nice flat screen, a small library, Juris' hanging plants, and herb garden and a wood burning furnace that heated the entire house. The kitchen kept a small philco fridge (solar power), a wood burning oven cooktop, L shaped counter tops, and a massive window wall. To the left was the wet bathroom,a small compost toilet, a vanity sink, and a multi-setting detachable shower head. All of the bathroom was open concept, and a drain was in the centre, so shower water to go out. Juris' room was under the loft, but she had Alice build a bunk bed with an open bottom, where Juris put her desk and bowl chair underneath, botany books filled the entire shelving unit, and plants were the focal point.
Everything was nice, after such hard struggle they had, it would've been nicer if they'd live longer, but beggars can't be choosers right? It was in Quill's when they died, it was Wednesday; the slow day for the week. After school Juris had walked down the sidewalk and went it, the bell chimed; Alice looked up from where she was reading How to Kill a Mockingbird.
"Hey Al, how was work today?" Juris walked over to the bartop and opened up her backpack, sixth grade was rather taxing, but Alice was in college so why should she complain?
"Could be better, I read through the entire mystery section, had only four customers, and a stray cat." Alice smiled and pulled a glass from under the bartop and started on Juris' ice cream sundae. Juris pulled her phone from the front pocket of her backpack. Alice passed the glass over the bar top with a long spoon, "School?"
"Gross. Justin Matas tried his nasty flirting, I ignored it, until he got pushy and forced himself on me, I punched the shit out of him." Alice laughed as she wiped down the counter, as odd burning smell permeated the air, then all at once, a great explosion blasted the building.
The entire thing was written off as a gas explosion. A hapless accident that could've been avoided.
Of course, to Alice and Juris it was like they fell asleep. Only to wake up in a field.
