He smelt like new sheets and aftershave, like he had just tumbled out of bed. And excitement. He always smelt of excitement. Oh, and apples of course. She loves to breathe in his scent of new sheets, aftershave, and excitement mixed with the subtle fruity hint.

He sounded like that one song she had stuck in her head, the one song that wouldn't get out. You know? But what was frustrating was how she couldn't remember what that song was called or how she heard it in the first place. Well, now she knew. That song, playing on repeat for days, weeks, months...was him.

He felt like experience. Skill showed through his arm muscles flexing when his hands went up and down her back; talent showed through his fingers, callused from guitar-playing, yet still soft and soothing to hold; knowledge showed through his lips, the same lips that sang all those words he says he only ever meant for her.

He tasted like the honey-lemon cough drops he's been eating since he got sick last Tuesday. But past that, if she kissed him harder, he had a unique flavor of unconditional bliss. That hidden happiness is addicting. She loves it. It fills her up.

Joy. Understanding. Obsessive. Thrilling. Forbidden.

He was everything she thought kissing her boyfriend's best friend would be.

The next day, Connect Three had to cancel their guest appearance at the benefit concert because Nate was still sick and had lost his voice. So instead, the band decided to call up the girlfriends and watch movies together. But as the credit sequence started and Caitlyn snuggled up to Nate, he was too busy staring at the girl sitting on his other side. The girl who has straight, chocolate brown hair, a beautiful smile, and who started coughing only this morning…

Shane never put two and two together.
