Prologue
Centipede paced angrily. Not only did he hate being surrounded by mountains (the desert was much better than this), but he also hated waiting.
He had made a deal with a female MudWing who was visiting the Scorpion Den. He needed an apprentice, and this was the way to get it. She had said that she would meet him at the mountains with one of her sister's eggs. Centipede always wondered why she was so quick to accept.
There! She was swooping down towards Centipede, egg in claws. "Hello," he said as she landed.
"Hi," she clutched the egg in her talons. "It's blood red. Fireproof."
"I know what red eggs hatch!" Centipede grabbed the egg from her grasp. "Thank you, darling," he smiled at the MudWing before blasting flames in her face. She closed her eyes, and her scales glowed a red before returning to normal. She leaped at Centipede and pinned his tail, claws, and neck down. Foolish me.
"What are you planning to do with that egg?"
"Why didn't you just not come? If you didn't want me to take your egg?"
"What? I'm just curious."
"Then why didn't you just ask?"
"You don't seem the type, and I'm not the type."
"Fair point."
"Tell me." The MudWing dug in her claws, just a bit.
"It will become an assassin. The best when I pass."
"I see. I want to join!"
"What!"
"I want to be an assassin!"
"You're insane. Being a killer is not fun and games."
"I know. I just have a few enemies that I want to get rid of, and not only can I kill them, but I can help you with anything you need."
"You're mental."
"I won't give you the egg otherwise."
"Ugh, get off of me, and then come with me."
"Thank you." The MudWing winged off into the sky with the egg, ready to follow Centipede. She always stayed far away from him. What have I done? I know I can just kill her later, but something tells me she'll be useful. I'll let her live for now.
