Remus hummed a tune-less song as he studied the flobberworm on the ground. It didn't seem to be alive, so he picked it up to examine it a little closer. He jabbed it sharply with his finger, but it still refused to move. He poked it once more and this time it exploded with a slight pop. He stared at the green goop that now covered his child like hands. He tried to wipe it on the grass but only managed to add dirt to the sticky mess. He let out a quiet sigh and stood up.
Suddenly he heard his mother's thunderous voice calling him,
"Remmy, its getting dark, come on in hunny."
"Okay, mommy." Remus called back, beginning his trek towards home.
His house wasn't too far away, but Remus liked to take his time walking home. He gazed at the sky painted with the bright reds and oranges above him. He could see the large full moon hanging in the sky, and it made him smile. He had always had a fascination with the moon, particularly the full moon. Remus had read many books about the moons influence on people, both muggles and wizards. He was deeply interested in werewolves and on more than one occasion had asked his parents to take him to see one. But much to his disappointment, his parents had refused. Though, Remus wasn't about to give up.
He froze in his tracks when the sound of a twig breaking under someone's weight… or something's weight. He spun around to see what it was, but it was now far too dark to see past the garden fence. He had thought it was his father who had been away on business returning home.
"Dad!" Remus called, "Is that you dad?" There came no reply. He shrugged it off and continued home when he thought he heard heavy breathing approaching him from behind. He turned but still saw no one when he heard a low growl. Remus began to panic a bit. Whatever was growling seemed rather large. Far bigger than himself, that was for sure. I am here.
Remus quickened his pace but could still hear footsteps behind him. He began to jog but could hear whatever it was follow right behind him. Remus was now a few feet from his house.
"Mom!" Remus screamed, "Mommy help!" The door to their house burst open and Remus' mom came running out. He was about to run into her protective arms when he slid in some mud and fell.
Remus watched his mom scream before he felt something grab hold of his leg. He let out a screech and then everything went dark.
