So, I didn't really pay attention to the actual time period when America was a new country…I just kinda envisioned it in a modern day setting. Just keep that in mind while reading.
England peeked up from the papers he had previously been filling out and saw that America had once again abandoned his math worksheet to stare out the window longingly. England didn't blame him; it was an unusually bright and sunny day out, without a cloud in the sky.
After a couple more seconds, he sighed, standing up. "America," he called the young country. "Come on, we're going to go to the park." America's face lit up with pure joy.
"Really?" he asked in disbelief.
"Really," England nodded, picking him up. "I think it'll be okay if we skip the lessons just for today." America smiled, throwing his small arms around England's neck, repeatedly saying 'thank you'. He just chuckled and smiled.
Twenty minutes later, they were at the nearby park, and America looked like he had just entered heaven.
"Now remember, don't talk to strangers, and make sure you stay where I can see you," England reminded him. But America wasn't paying any attention.
"Can I go play now?" the energetic country asked, looking as if he were about to burst from anticipation. England nodded and he ran off faster than England thought was possible.
He shook his head, smiling to himself as he took a seat on a bench where he could keep an eye on America.
A little while later, England realized that the young country had somehow managed t escape his sight. He instantly jumped up, worry and anxiety
After ten minutes of futile searching, the Brit felt sick to his stomach as worst case scenarios ran through his head. But then he heard a voice behind him. "Excuse me?" He turned around and saw a woman standing there, holding America's hand. "Is this your son?"
"Oh thank god!" England breathed a sigh of relief as he picked him up. "You had me worried sick! Where did you run off to?"
"I found him almost half way up a tree," she said with a slightly amused smile.
"What?" England exclaimed. He looked at America. "Why were you going up a tree?"
"I'm the hero!" he replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "I had to get to the top so I could defeat the monster up there and save everyone!" England resisted rolling his eyes.
"Well, thank you for bringing him to me," England said to the woman sincerely.
"It's no problem. I've got a boy of my own that is always doing things like that. I know how worried I get when he runs off." She smiled again and waved as she walked away.
"Am I in trouble?" America asked quietly. England looked at him, fully prepared to scold him. But when he saw the young country's tear filled eyes, his anger quickly crumbled away.
"No," he sighed. "I'm just glad you're safe. You had me really worried and scared."
"I know...I'm sorry." America hugged England around his neck, burying his face into his shoulder.
"It's alright. Just don't do it again." America nodded, then looked back up, tears gone and smile up.
"Can I finish playing now?" England laughed, but agreed, this time playing with him.
So, there's my second England/America one-shot! I want to go ahead and say thanks for all the great reviews I got for 2AM. It really meant a lot to me, and I hope to get some reviews like that for this story too!
