Just a quick drabble that popped into my mind after reading chapter 144 for like…the 100th time
XD. It's hinting LucyxGrey like the tiniest bit because I love that pairing as well!

Pride.

Pride is one of the seven deadly sins, isn't it? And he knows thoroughly that he is guilty of being prideful. It comes with having the spirit of the Lion, after all. Not to mention, with his smooth talking and his dashing good looks and such, why shouldn't he be prideful?

But that's what got him here in the first place, right? If he, Loke, hadn't been so full of Pride, then maybe Karen would still be alive. Maybe Aries would have been treated better if he had shelved his pride. But no, that was something he could never do. Not even now, when his current Stellar Spirit Mage was in danger because of him.

Lucy couldn't use Aquarius because Angel had Scorpio. And so she'd fallen on him, he who had promised to be her knight. Him, Loke, Leo, the strongest of the Stellar Spirits and (unknown for the moment to Lucy) her future lover. There was no way to describe how miserably he had failed her, how miserably he had failed in his promise to her.

Because he was facing someone he had given so much to protect three years ago. The little ram, Aries. Lucy had understood; she didn't want to put him out there against the one he had tried to keep safe from Karen's harm. Lucy had wanted to send him back to the astral plane, to keep him from hurting a friend and to keep him from being hurt by a friend.

Loke didn't like that; he hated that she looked down on him, as if something so trivial would keep him from protecting her. Then again, what did she understand? What did a Stellar Mage understand about the pride of the Spirits? The pride that they had to keep their masters safe, to make sure that they did what they were supposed to do?

Lucy probably knew more than Loke, he had realized after being sent back to the astral plane. He was pretty stupid when he looked back on it; Lucy was suffering when he was fighting Aries. After all, she knew that the Ram was the reason he'd been banished from the plane (not entirely, but slightly). She had known that this was a friend he cared deeply about and he had ignored that.

Damn pride.

And he'd been sent back forcibly, leaving Lucy to the devil in disguise. It was all his fault that she was beat up so badly, that she had to rely on Hibiki for help. It was his fault that she had to bow her head to Angel, begging for what Loke had demanded of Karen: Aries' freedom.

Well, she got it in the end, but she was so beat up that Loke had half a mind to chew her out for the state she was in. He'd forced his way through the gate to help nurse her before she went with Natsu and Grey (he definitely wasn't looking forward to leaving her with the Dragon Slayer and he would

rather take the Spirit King head on then leave her with the exhibitionist).

Of course she was muttering about being fine and healthy and asked if he was okay. Well, no freaking duh, he wasn't okay! She was hurt because of his pride and because of his friend and because of so many other things! Lucy really did ask stupid questions at times. But she had shown humility for his sake and for Aries sake.

And he was pretty sure that humility counteracted Pride…which gave him a pretty good excuse to stay by her side.
xxx

I've noticed that there are no stories for Loke and Aries…it struck me as odd, seeing as they are just so cute! Well, Aries is adorable, but I guess their relationship if more sibling like?

Hm, anyway, thanks for reading! Please leave a review! Comments, suggestions….maybe requests? XD Flames will either be sent to be doused by Juvia or eaten by Natsu!
