Jack sighed and licked his lips, how was he going to explain?
"Some men dream of crossing oceans. Some men dream one day to fly, spend their whole lives floating on the water and the sky."
He'd done both, he'd been around the world and to other worlds on missions, he'd flown all sorts of planes, not just ones from Earth either.
"Some men dream of building fortunes. Some men dream of having fame, nothing else is more important than making money and a name."
It was true, he was paid well considering his record, his rank, hell the Air Force bought his home for him, and his name was well known.
"In my dreams, I see, a little sky blue house beside a small stream. A front porch, a screen door, the sound of bare feet running and cartoons. In my dreams, your dreams come true."
It was true, he'd even painted his cabin a baby blue color in recent months, he couldn't help himself, he'd needed to do it.
"I come find you in your garden. Pulling weeds between the rose. Trade a kiss for a glass of water…sit and watch what love can grow."
Again, it was true – he'd planted several different types of rose bushes in a small area by the cabin, he figured it would make a good garden.
"In my dreams, your dreams, are the only things that really matter to me. When you smile, I smile. What makes you happy make me happy too. In my dreams, your dreams come true."
Jack sighed and sat quietly, in all honestly he was on a bit of an edge, what good would baring his soul get him? He wasn't really sure what good it was but he'd said what he'd felt – that's what mattered. He barely moved for the next few minutes. It wasn't until she wiped a tear from her eye and smiled at him did he allow his heart to flutter slightly.
She laughed and stood up from the table, walking around and throwing her arms around Jack, who opened his to her. He held her against him and sighed in relief, slipping the diamond engagement onto her finger and kissed her cheek.
What had baring his soul gotten him? The most beautiful fiancée a man could wish for, Samantha Carter.
After Thought: Please review!
