Disclaimer: I do not own Mass Effect, or any of its characters, though I wish I could. They belong to Bioware and EA. Any other characters are mine unless stated otherwise. All songs and quotes are credited to their respected owners. I make no money with this Fanfiction. It's just my imagination gone crazy.
Note: Sorry about the grammatical errors. My Word is messing up and won't open for some reason. So I free wrote this without spell check or Beta reader. Either way, I hope this came out good and in depth to how my Shepard would feel if she lost Thane. Hope everyone had a Happy Holiday season. And a Happy New Year. I will try to update my other stories soon. But I tend to lag, sorry.
Special Note: I better be able to cure Thane and have him as a squadmate. I'd even do just curing him. But if neither...I swear Bioware...Killingspree!
Special Thanks: This story was inspired by Emantsal's story. It's called Husk. Beautiful.
Hollow.
It was all she felt.
Like a ghost, but her body still routed to the wet earth below her feet. The heaven's cried, the drops heavy upon her scarred cheeks. She could not feel them, though. She could not feel much of anything since that day.
It had been hours, but her feet just would not move even though she was weak and her legs began to shake and threaten to buckle underneath her. His body had been given to the sea, sad songs were sung and tears were shed. But not from her. She just felt hollow, empty, nothing.
She knew what it meant to love him. She knew he would die, but she dreamed of their lives together. They dreamed of it, together.
A nice hot desert, arid. A place to live together since she too loved the heat. Intai'sei, her apartment. He smiled and chuckled when she told him but he thought it was perfect too. So they decided. Planned. Moved and it was good for a time until they had to leave to face the inevitable.
But then everything changed. He coughed, spit out blood. She cried and begged him not to leave her. She prayed. She even left to search, but it all was in vain.
She tried so hard, looked far and wide. Turned over the Galaxy. Nothing. She found nothing.
Blinking once, then twice, three times, she finally came out to notice her surroundings. It was beautiful. The sea rippled with the rain hitting it softly, so many colors from the sun's rays poking through the thick clouds above. But she could just not seem to feel their warmth. Her soul had died and gone with him. Her skin was icy, and she had seemed to age ten years in one day, attesting to the dark rings around her eyes.
Of all people, why him?
He had done so much good...
Atoned and helped saved the Galaxy from many threats...
But the Gods only laughed in her face and still took him away...
Pivoting on her heel, she tried to move away. She needed to leave, to ready herself. Their was still so much work to be done. The Reapers were coming. She needed to fight and afterwards she could, would, join him across the sea. Warm in his arms. Loved.
He could not be taken away from her then. They could be happy. They would smile at each other like they've done so many times before. Pressed their soft lips in a sweet kiss. Together...
At peace...
But for now. she had to fight. She had to push her feelings in the pit where her heart used to lie.
As the thrusters of the Kodiak switched on, her body soaked in the rains of Kahje, she looked out through the fogged and rained windows one last time and smiled a sad smile.
Rest my love...I will come back soon...
And her eyes became dark. No life. She became a husk.
Unfeeling...
Hollow...
