She sits in the rain. Her blonde hair sticks to her black T-shirt as she looks out over the sea. Her feet dangle off the sea wall, a pose her eldest sister would never approve of. She doesn't move, just lets the sheets of rain fall around her.

He walks out to meet her, with no raincoat on, and sits next to her. "Are you okay?" He asks tentatively.

"No."

"Do you want to talk abo-"

"She died today, Jeffery. Today ten years ago was the last time a saw my mother." Skye raises her voice, almost a yell, but not quite. Her tears mix with the raindrops that cascade down her face. Gently he places a hand on hers, "Skye I know, and you know I'm always here for you. I lo-"

"Don't touch me." She jerked her hand out from underneath his. "Jeffery, I can't- we can't- what if-" her voice cracks.

"Skye-"

"What if Jeffery! What if you leave me? I can't feel that way again, I can't loose someone else Jeffery, and I can't loose what I never had."

"Skye, I-"

"Don't, just, don't." She stands and runs down on bare feet onto the sand. He follows her as lightning lights up the grey skies. He follows, stopping a few yards behind her. She watches the clouds roll in, no one can see her cry.

"Skye," he yells over the pounding rain. "I would never leave you, ever. I don't want to even think of a world without you. Please Skye, please." He pleads. She turns to face him. In the next crack of lightning, he sees her face, she's taken aback and still with an undertone of panic. He closes the distance between them and pulls her into his soaking wet

T-shirt.

"I could never leave you Skye Penderwick," he whispers, his eyes locking in with hers, "I'd have to leave part of myself. I'm hopelessly, entirely, completely, in love with you."

"Promise? Promise you won't leave?"

He slid his fingers in between hers. "Pinkie promise." He whispered as he kissed their intertwined fingers. Lightning lit up the sky again, as the two figures on the shore embraced, and the rain continued to fall.

Author's note.

I haven't updated in a while, but it feels good to be back! This is a one shot I wrote on the bus back from a marching band thing this weekend. I always thought her mothers death had more of an effect on Skye then she let on, and now she fears loss. As always thanks for the positive environment, and I hope to be publishing more stories soon!
