Held within the bleak emptiness of space, consuming and undeniable, shone beacons of radiance- millions of stars lending their light to planets and the people that dwell upon them. Within the choking grip of space, all stars and planets shine like precious diamonds against colorless black. Chunks of space debris littered that emptiness on occasion, giving the only refuge from the monotony of blackness. Those chunks were nothing more than bits of meteors, destroyed planets, and the rubbish of sentient beings from places far away and long gone. Eternally, they drifted to their unknown destination.

However, those chunks were not all drifting aimlessly, and not all without life. Movement stirred from within what would seem nothing more than a harmless chunk of icy space debris. Within that clever camouflage, long nails scraped against the metallic interior of the space craft. Long, blue-hued fingers curled in anticipation. Dark eyes peered out through a tiny porthole, narrowing in calculation. Those sharp eyes shifted from planet to planet within a tiny star's orbit. Focusing on a particular blue gem planet, uncountable pinpricks of ki danced like vibrant fireflies upon its surface. Sharp canines poked through purple-hued lips as they formed a devilish grin.

The light of that solar system's tiny star shone through the peephole. Seemingly black eyes illumined in hues of midnight lapis as the pupils contracted sharply into small pinpoints. The figure stepped back, silhouetted in shadows cast by the beam of light boring through the tiny porthole. Turning away from the radiant light, a rope of dark hair trailed behind the figure.

The figure moved naturally with unnerving silence, navigating effortlessly through chambers of the space craft in almost complete darkness. Reaching out with practiced motion, a bony cold finger glided over polished metal. On contact, the metal illuminated in response. Not apparent at first glance, a port within the wall slid open without a sound. Neck craning, both dark eyes focused on a lump of numerous blankets sitting atop a cushioned bunk several feet away. Those lips parted to speak. A deep monotone voice, raspy with disuse, poured forth.

"Armas." The word rolled out through the parted lips in thick, curling vapor- a result of the extreme difference between body heat and the intense cold of the air. When nothing happened, the voice thickened in force. "Armas."

The large pile of material shifted and groaned as a thickly furred brown tail slipped from beneath the covers to spill over the cushioned bunk. An incoherent sound; half growl, half grumble, emanated from the shifting cloth. Midnight eyes twinkled in amusement as sharp teeth were bared in an almost feral sneer.

"Get ready to land, Armas. It would seem we've found another planet with abundant life. If all goes well, we may get more than a satisfying meal."

Shifting heavily, a small edge of the cloth mass lifted up. Amber gold eyes glanced up to meet intent midnight eyes.

"Good. I'm hungry," The edge of the covers were pulled back down, pinned tight against the invading freeze of the outside air, "…and cold."

An arched black brow raised as the dark eyes beneath scrutinized the cocoon of blankets and the little worm within.

"Then sleep in your own bunk where it's warm." With that being the only response, the skeletal figure swept out of the room with chilled intent. Reaching a marked platform at the end of the corridor, icy fingers firmly pressed against the metallic wall, eliciting a soft yellow glow from the polished alloy. The platform began to rise without so much as a squeak, carrying its passenger into the cockpit of the ship. Within the shadow of the Earth's moon, a fair sized rain of meteors floated lazily towards the innocent little blue planet. They would enter Earth's atmosphere within the cloak of night.

Author's Notes: I've taken an extended hiatus from this story for various reasons. In order to continue where I've left off, I've been reading through the chapters just to bring myself back up to speed. However, I noticed a few small spelling and grammatical errors that spell check and I failed to notice before initially posting. Thus, I'm, revising each chapter and reposting it. All chapters that have been revised will have 'REV' at the bottom in the author's notes. Once the existing chapters have all been revised, I will begin posting new chapters.
