I Won't Wait Forever
"We should tell James and Peter, you know," Remus said, sighing happily as Sirius stroked a hand through his hair.
"Tell them what?"
"About us. You know, being together," Remus muttered, suddenly sounding unsure.
"I...Um...Why?" Sirius asked, sitting up.
"We've been together for months, Sirius. I'm tired of hiding. I'm tired of watching you flirting with girls in the Great Hall, tired of not being able to hold your hand in Hogsmead. I'm proud to be with you," Remus implored. Meeting Sirius' eye, he whispered, "Are you ashamed of me?"
"What, no, Remus! Never ashamed of you. I swear. I just... I can't stop being who I've made myself, Remus. I'm Sirius Black, player extraordinaire, the only Black in Gryffindor. I can't... I'm sorry. You deserve better," Sirius said quietly.
Remus stared at Sirius for a moment. "I understand," he replied, standing up.
"Where are you going?" Sirius asked, standing up to meet him.
"Just like you can't stop being who you are, I can't hide who I am. I love you Sirius, but you're right. I deserve better than being a dirty secret."
Remus turned and walked away. Sirius shouted him back.
"I'm sorry, Remus. I love you."
"I love you too. I always will, I suspect. Remember though, Sirius. I won't wait forever."
