prompt- character: gilderoy lockhart
Gilderoy knew nothing about who he was supposed to be. He wasn't honest or good, and he wasn't smart, and he was quite forgetful.
All he knew for sure was that he was handsome.
Many people thought he was vain, staring at him own reflection, and maybe it was. But for him, it was just cold comfort, that something about him was worth talking about.
He knew people talked about him, quiet whispers behind his back, and he always turned the other cheek, because people only talk about others when they're jealous, right?
Wrong, so wrong, so very, very, wrong.
He knew that too, but he didn't want to say.
He know what he is (a fraud) and he knows what he's become (a criminal), but who would want to say that?
So he looks at his own self, captured forever in a portrait, and think, this is who I am.
I am Gilderoy Lockhart, and I am beautiful.
Of course, once he uses the stupid boy's wand and blasts his mind into oblivion, he doesn't remember any of these things. He only knows the things the nurses tell him, basics on his life, until the stupid one brings the portrait in, and tells him the contents. He looks at her strangely.
"That's me?" he asks incredulously, admiring himself. "I'm gorgeous!"
And somewhere, deep in his self conscious, the part of Gilderoy that remembers laughs. Laughs, because even when everything else has been taken away, Gilderoy Lockhart is still handsome.
And nothing will take that away.
