Title: One Mistake

Trigger Warning: Swearing, gore/violence

A/N: I should probably be working on finishing Remember Me, but damn, the idea for this popped into my head and it was just too good to not write down.

This will be a twoshot, maybe a threeshot depending on how things go. Will contain loads of angst and feels.

"Look at me kid, alright? Everything's going to be okay."

They both knew in their hearts it wouldn't be.

One mistake. That was all it took.

One mistake, and Bonnie and Mike lay there twitching, their writhing bodies splattered with gunshot wounds, weeping eyes pleading for death as scarlet spilled into white snow. And death did come to them, their numb hands locked into an eternal grasp as the cold metal of the blade came crashing down into their broken minds.

One mistake. He had dozed off, and the walker slipped through the wire fence unnoticed. Her agonising screams were silenced as Jane's throat was ripped out in her sleep.

One mistake, and the walker had sunken its teeth into the kid's shoulder.

Why couldn't it have been me?

"We can't just ignore this. What's happened has happened."

"J-just shut up an' let me think! I ain't just gonna give up! Not if I can damn well do somethin' about it!"

"There is nothing we can do. You know the deal."

"I ain't gonna just sit around and-"

"Kenny."

His aching shoulders droop, any flicker of hope left in his eyes snuffed out as the name slides off the girl's tongue.

"I-I can't just let this happen! We can't make it without you!"

Silence towers over the unfinished room for what feels like years, before the spell is finally broken by the gruff clearing of a throat.

"You'll be fine without me." Mumbles Luke, his skin turning ever paler as the infection tightens its grip.
