It's Christmas! It's Christmas! It's Christmas! Was the only thought running through Ms. Kimiko Tohomiko's head as her eyes snapped open one morning. Despite the chill in the air, she crawled out of the warmth of her blankets and to the window. She peered out from the shutters and a wonderful sight met her eyes.
There was a thick blanket of snow carpeting the ground and more still descending from puffy white clouds in the sky. She watched as the tiny flakes gently swirled and twirled on its way to Earth. A tiny pinch of the morning sun peeked out from behind its blanket of cloud, bathing the small valley in its glow. It hit the snow, refracting off of the ice crystals, making the valley look as though it were painted with diamonds.
Kimiko couldn't wait to go see it for herself. So she did.
She found a warm, soft robe to wear, put on some slippers, and snuck down the hall so that she wouldn't wake any of her fellow monks. Rai, she snorted, would even want to sleep in on a day like today!
The knob of the door was icy cold from the chill in the air and her fingers stuck to it as she turned it. She took a tentative step out into the subzero temperature and into the beautiful wonderland that had her captivated just moments before. She was almost sad to damage the landscape with her foot prints, but then she noticed that hers weren't the only ones. She followed them around to the courtyard curiously.
As she rounded the corner, she gasped. In the center of the yard was a snow sculpture and a very busy Raimundo. He was patting snow onto the figure, then he stepped back.
"There," he mumbled to himself, "She's perfect."
"It's very beautiful, Rai," Kimiko said shyly, "I like your snow angel."
The Brazilian turned around, his cheeks pink from the cold and his eyes wide in surprise. Then he laughed.
"No, Kim. It's you!" He rubbed the back of his head in partial embarrassment. "I made it for you as a present…"
Kimiko beamed and threw her arms around him in a hug, "Merry Christmas," she whispered as she nuzzled her face into his neck. He returned her embrace willingly.
"Merry Christmas, Snow Angel."
