People have a tendency to let her down. Laura didn't know how much of it was their fault; maybe her expectations were too high. She used to get angry. Used to store it up and then spit it out at the most inopportune times. Now she bottles it and saves it, she's perfected her timing over the years: she's excellent at calculation.
She knows people like Tigh and Zarek think she's hard on the outside and weak on the inside, but her centre is steel. She doesn't break and she doesn't soften; despite life's tragedies. The only person she truly trusts is herself because everyone else has left her or let her down.
Adama understands; she sees it in his eyes - she's a fighter, like himself. Now he knows that she'll play her opposition at their own game in order to get what she wants and what Laura wants is the best for the people, even if she has to sell-out to achieve it.
And Grey might be disillusioned with her but she can live with that, she's spent the last sixteen years watching Adar double-dealing - she knows how to get the job done, knows that adhering to a moral code and accomplishing the greater good don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. Such is life; riddled with complications and contradictions.
Today she took her place among the great leaders, today she demonstrated what she was made of, today she discovered the dangers of being irresponsible with power. Today she has become what she feared the most: a true politician.
