Our Eternity
Annie watched happily as future Eve faded, knowing that Eve had fulfilled her destiny to save the world. She held the smaller child, cradling her in her arms; finally turning towards her door, knowing her unfinished business had finally been resolved.
Annie grasped the handle of the door, where its dazzling light shone bright. She was engulfed by a sense of calmness. A small smile formed on her face, as she headed for heaven. Once she passed on, Annie heard the door close gently behind her. The light faded and she found herself in a perfect peaceful place.
"This is it," Annie whispered to the baby, "This is our eternity."
Annie took Eve around the places of their heaven. She remembered what Eve's grown-up self had told her: They're waiting for you. Annie looked around, knowing Eve had been right. There she noticed George and Nina in the far distance. She smiled.
"George, Nina!"
Annie ran over. George and Nina suddenly stood up, seeing their friend approach them.
"Oh my God," Nina said, smiling.
"Annie!" George called out.
Annie continued to run over, with Eve in her arms, finally reaching her friends. She gave Eve to George and he cradled his daughter happily.
"She's amazing," Nina commented.
"Our daughter, Eve," George mentioned, "And she saved the world."
"Thanks, Annie," Nina told her friend.
"I'm so, so proud of you," George added, "Well done."
The three of them cried with happiness. Eve cooed in the arms of her parents, then reaching her hand playfully out towards Annie; perhaps that was the child's way of saying thank you, to her former guardian.
"Would Mitchell be proud of me?" Annie wondered, "Knowing what I've done."
"Of course I would."
Her smile shone when she heard his words. She faced him, seeing he looked the same as he did, the night he'd died; the night George had staked him.
"Oh, Mitchell," Annie gasped, as she felt she'd been brought back to life again.
She sprinted into his arms and he held her close, finally kissing her. Seconds passed before they finally stopped and Mitchell continued to cradle her in his strong arms.
"You did good, Annie. You were so brave."
"How can you be here?" Annie asked, as she continued to stroke his face gently.
"All good vampires have a soul and they found me a place here," Mitchell explained, "There aren't many good vampires."
"But then there's you," Annie said.
She felt Mitchell kiss her forehead. To be back in the arms of her true lover was what Annie had been dreaming, all that time she'd missed him.
Then Mitchell and Annie turned back to the Sands family, smiling with joy, as they faced the final chapter in their story.
"Forever," Mitchell said.
"And eternity," Annie added, "Our eternity."
