I lay in the cool grass, my hand entwined with Edward's and my head resting on his chest, the rain drizzling over us. We lay in silence, and I listened to the rain hitting the leaves of the trees that surrounded us. One tree had a branch much shorter than the others- Edward had ripped off that branch the first time he had taken me here, and the tree had never recovered. I smiled at the memory.
"Are you listening for a heartbeat?"
"Very
funny, Edward."
He let out a playful laugh, and he began to stroke my hair, his long fingers weaving intricate patterns into my long locks.
"Tell me what you're thinking about."
I
sighed happily.
"I'm thinking about the first time you brought me here."
He laughed his musical laugh, and it seemed to harmonize with the falling rain.
"Well, I
was thinking about what happened after that."
"Do you
mean running with me? Because that's not..."
He was now pressing me into the cool grass, his pale hand framing my face, and his thumb dancing along my throat. His glorious face was just inches from mine, and I could smell his sweet breath.
He kissed me gently and I remembered what had happened after we had gone running. He pulled away and looked me in the eyes. I blushed.
"Oh. That."
He smiled and ran his fingers gently over my cheek before kissing me again; he no longer showed restraint when we kissed. He gently, carefully, bit my lip, and then ran his icy tongue over it, sending shivers up and down my spine. I never would have thought that kissing Edward could get even better. Silly me.
He broke the kiss and let his head fall to rest by my neck. I sighed, and I could fell his breath on my neck as he let a small laugh escape his lips.
"Isabella?" he
whispered, his voice smoldering.
"Yes?" I breathed. His
lips planted delicate, but heated kisses along my neck.
"Happy
Valentine's Day."
