It was the evening of the Valentine's Ball at the Ozdust Ballroom and Elphaba could barely stop herself from gagging – all the pink!

The ceiling looked like one continual blob of pink there were so many hearts hovering over the dancing students. Elphaba silently cursed herself for being a good roommate and helping Galinda decorate – who else could have performed the hovering spell.

The walls were shining panels of alternating pink and red that reflected the couples dancing, as well as those without partners; the ugly, the obese, the be-zitted and the green.

As per tradition someone had spiked the punch, and Elphaba was taking full advantage of that, by the time the penultimate dance came around, she was well and truly sloshed, the room was spinning on its own and she was considering trying on some of the clothes in Galinda's wardrobe. Suddenly in front of her stood three Fiyero's. Blinking once, she brought the number down to two. Blinking again and again, and then closing one eye, she managed to bring the number down to one. "Whatcha want?" Elphaba's vocabulary had drowned in about the tenth glass of punch.

"To dance one dance with you." Replied Fiyero as he hefted Elphaba to her feet and steadied her. "Damn girl, how much of that punch did you have?"

"Lotsh...hic"

"I can see that." Fiyero dragged her so the dance floor, where they swayed gently to the song the band was playing. Brushing a long hair from her cheek, Fiyero realised that, apart from being green, Elphaba was as beautiful, if not more so, than Galinda.

The song ended and they just stood there, the prince and the frog. Fiyero smiled, maybe if he kissed her she'd change into a princess. Suddenly Elphaba gagged, placed both hands over her mouth and ran outside Fiyero forwent the final dance to keep an eye on Elphaba redecorating the bushes, in the darkened area where nobody could see her and make fun of her.

When she came out of the bushes he handed her a cup of water. "Rinse and spit." Elphaba did, several times, and the taste of vomit left her mouth somewhat and she began to feel better. Giddy and lightheaded, but better.

Fiyero walked Galdinda, who was not impressed that her boyfriend and missed the final dance, and Elphaba back to their dorm. At the door he kissed Galinda goodnight and she promptly twittered up the stairs like a fairy wearing a pink marshmallow. "I gesh itsh goodnight...hic," Elphaba smiled crookedly.

Fiyero took a step towards her and grabbed her face in both hands. Dark eyes looked up into his light ones. Slowly he lowered his face and met Elphaba's mouth in a gentle, yet passionate, kiss. Pulling apart and studying her face, he wondered if she would remember in the morning.

As she stumbled drunkenly up the stairs, he murmured words she wouldn't hear. "Happy Valentine's day Elphaba, I love you."
