"C'mon Vivien! You've gotta do it!" Fred Weasley crowed at the dark haired girl beside him. "I don't know Freddie, I just don't know," Vivien cried. Tonight was New Year's Eve, and Fred had been pushing Vivien to kiss the one person he knew she wanted to the most. She'd been really close to the twins ever since their second year of school, but recently as they'd gotten older, she'd started to develop much stronger feelings for George. Fred was always joking and playful while George was sweeter and more sincere. At least when it came to Vivien. She was almost positive he reciprocated her feelings, but she was so scared of ruining their friendship.
She'd spent a lot of her time after graduating from Hogwarts working in the stockroom for Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Fred kept threatening to slip her a love potion. Tonight, Vivien was sure he'd meddle somehow if she didn't just do it herself. She desperately wanted to kiss George at midnight, she just needed to find a little courage. "Hey Vivi, you okay?" asked none other than George Weasley. Vivien's heart skipped a beat, and she almost couldn't find any words to say. "I'm fine," she said cheerfully, "just excited for tonight." He smiled down at her, and once again, her heart leaped. "Well, um, I should probably go get ready," Vivien said, turning quickly to hide the blush spreading on her face. She didn't see George's stare trailing after her on her way up the stairs, but she could feel it. "I'm gonna do it," she whispered to herself, "I'm definitely gonna do it."
Later that night, as the New Year's celebration was in full swing, Vivien did everything in her power to keep herself distracted from what she was planning to do. She only had about ten minutes till the countdown, and she kept glancing over to Fred and George who were talking and laughing over by a table. She lost herself for several minutes talking to Ginny, and only tuned back in when she heard the countdown begin.
"10!"
She started to panic
"9!"
She was sure she'd never be able to do it
"8! 7! 6! 5!"
"Oh, screw it," she whispered to herself. She walked over, stood up on the table to match his height...
"4!"
She tapped George on the shoulder...
"3! 2!"
A pair of chocolatey brown eyes met hers...
"1! Happy New Year!"
She crashed her lips onto his, and he momentarily froze in shock. After a second, he melted into the kiss, wrapped his arms around Vivien and spun her around. The kiss broke, and he set her back down on the table. A resounding chorus of "Finally!" went around the room, and Vivien's heart soared. "Happy New Year, Georgie," she said, running her fingers through his short red hair. "Happy New Year, Viv," he laughed, "I've been waiting for this since second year." Vivien nodded, smiling, and looked over at Fred, who gave her a wink and a thumbs up. Her eyes met George's again, and this time he closed the distance between them. Their lips meshed perfectly, this time even better than the first. They sat down together on the couch for hours, talking and kissing, neither of them wanting to move. "I love you, George," Vivien said sincerely, "I have for a long time." "And I love you too, Vivien," he said, more serious than she had ever seen him, "this is truly going to be a happy new year."
