Twinkle Twinkle
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are,
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
At nights, he'd look to the sky. Wherever in the world he was, it was almost constant. The same sky, the same stars- in a different configuration, of course, but the same stars none the less. He looked up, and he liked to imagine that he was looking at the sky too, and that in some, small, insignificant way, they were connected- who knows, maybe they were looking at the same star.
For that reason, he always picked the brightest star in the sky, knowing that that one had the most chance of being seen over the London smog.
When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then show your little light,
Twinkle twinkle all the night.
The sunsets were always a time for him to stop and look up. Even if he couldn't take the time to enjoy them, he always watched them. He liked the way the sky changed colour, the way that the gold permeated it's surroundings... It reminded him of him.
He wondered if he was watching the sun too.
Then Traveller in the dark,
Thanks you for your tiny spark,
He could not see which way to go,
If you did not twinkle so.
When he lost track of why he was doing this-when he was in his darkest times, at his lowest. He thought of him. When he had no idea which way to turn, and the needle looked welcoming... He'd think of him and then he'd know.
The only direction he ever wanted to turn, was home.
In the dark blue sky you keep,
And often through my curtains peep,
For you never shut your eye,
Til' the sun is in the sky.
The velvet sky of London spread above him, dark but for the odd speck of light. He stared at them for a while, knowing that this was it. This was the end. It was over. He was home.
His eyes scanned the darkness, finding the brightest point in the sky and staring at it for a moment.
A small smile graced his lips as his eyelids slid closed. He was home.
As your bright and tiny spark,

Though I know not what you are,
Twinkle twinkle little star.
