My Best Friend

I met Marissa about eighteen years ago. I won't forget the look on her face when Jimmy gave me to her. Her baby blue eyes were sparkling and she had a smile on her face.

She was just a couple hours old little girl. We were exactly the same age because I started living at that moment.

I laid with her when she slept breathing steadily. Sometimes her parents came to look at us. They brushed Marissa's cheeks and told her beautiful things.

We started going out when we were a little over year old. She walked with her shaky legs, pushing me around.

Then she began making other friends. She had sleepovers with some girls called Summer and Holly. She was home just sometimes.

I remember smiling on her bed, while she and her little sister played with barbies. They were like a perfect team together.

When she was younger she often sat on the floor in the dark. She picked me up and placed me in her arms. She just held me and sobbed softly, rocking herself back and fort. I was probably the only one who understood how unhappy she was.

I hated Ryan Atwood. Every time he came over I was hurt. While he fell on the bed with Marissa, I was always knocked on the floor. It was so annoying.

I knew when she started dating that Volchok guy, because she used all of her time with him. He just simply didn't deserve her. Too often she came home crying and buried herself under the covers.

When Julie came into Marissa's room, I knew something had happened. She hugged me against her chest and cried. After awhile Neil came and held her in his arms, murmuring something in her ear.

Then I understood. My best friend was gone.

The only real friend I ever had.

The whole time in Marissa's funeral I just sat on her coffin. People stared at me. Maybe they remembered something about Marissa by looking at me.

Now I'm sitting on Summer's bed, looking at her life. At night she comes home and smells Marissa in me. A tear rolls down from her eye and she wipes it quickly away. No tears, just the smell.

I'm Share Bear and I miss my old friend, Marissa Cooper.

I watched you die
I heard you cry
Every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better that to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry
In the middle of the night
For the same damn thing
