Author's Note: I don't own One Piece. This takes place pre-storyline.
This is my attempt at something actiony for the FanFiction High-School Never Ends (BIG challenge).
Luffy walked aimlessly around Foosha Village trying to find something exciting to do. He looked around the main street of his village, it was such a plain, tiny village that never had anything exciting happen. He saw the bartender, Makino, looking at fish, which was getting sold by the fishmonger, Gyoru, while his wife, Chiken, was helping Makino pick a good fish. Luffy continued walking to see the crazy carpenter, Minatomo, fixing a door that had gotten a hole in it somehow. While Luffy was walking, he noticed that the mayor, Woop Slap, was looking at fish with Makino now. Luffy pouted at how boring it was in the village.
Luffy was about to turn around and head back home, when he noticed a black flag from the ocean. Luffy, being a bored 7 year old, decided that he would go investigate and protect his village if needed. He began to run towards the harbor, jumping over the rocks that were his obstacles. He continued on his mission to examine the threat, without any back-up and no weapons to defend himself with. He ducked to avoid getting hit in the head from any tree branches.
Luffy's grin widened as he made it to the harbor, and the thought to hide from the maybe threat never occurred to him. Luffy stood there grinning at his triumph of making it to the harbor, despite all of the obstacles that he faced, while the pirates got off of their ship. Luffy realized that the pirates had gotten off of the ship when he got poked in the head, "What are you doing?"
Luffy looked up to see a red-haired man with scars on his face, with a straw hat and a sword. Luffy immediately began to panic when he saw the sword, and tried looking around for a weapon to defend himself, but all he saw was a bunch of guys with guns and other weapons. The red-haired man looked confused, "Are you okay?"
Luffy looked like he was going to faint, as he spoke mostly to himself, "But, I made it all the way here...past all the obstacles…"
The pirate looked even more confused, as he tried to find the obstacles that the kid was talking about. All he could see were some tiny pebbles that couldn't do any harm to anyone, and some tree branches, even though, at the kid's height, the branches wouldn't have hit him anyways. The guy looked down at the kid, before crouching down to his height, "Uh...I'm not here to kill you or anything like that…" Luffy looked completely horrified when the guy with the sword bent over to his height, and fell over unconscious, leaving a now panicked adult. The other adults started laughing at the red-haired man's expression, "What the hell am I supposed to do?"
Luffy woke up in Makino's bar, with Makino fussing over him. He looked around and saw the pirates drinking. The red-haired one was helping Makino get stuff, and was the one to notice that Luffy gained consciousness. This time it was the man, who his crew had addressed as Captain and Shanks, who panicked, and he ended up leaving followed by his crew. Makino looked confused for a moment by the sudden silence, but then realized that Luffy had woken up.
Luffy made it his goal to thank the pirates, and asked Makino a ton of questions about the pirates, specifically the red-haired one, which inspired his new pastime of following the pirate captain, Shanks, around.
