"Smells like rain today, eh, Al?"
I watched my brother get up and carry himself to the sink, dropping his breakfast dishes in the soapy water. As usual, his cup of milk had remained untouched.
"What's rain supposed to smell like?" Since my body reclamation, we had had sunny weather. Of course, three weeks without rain was causing a bit of a drought in the area, but on the other hand, I didn't exactly want it to rain.
"Well, I think it smells kind of… it smells like when you stand in the shower without using soap. And a bit like mold."
I wrinkled my nose, still amazed that I could make such an expression. "That sounds gross."
"It's not gross. Some people actually like it." He sat back down at the kitchen table, propping his head up with one arm. "I don't particularly like it, though."
I looked out the window, at the ominous, dark grey clouds that were threatening to burst. "Those clouds are scary."
Edward turned around to glance out the window. "They're not that bad." He looked back at me. "Aw, come on. They won't eat you."
"I never said they would."
Huge raindrops started falling, making dull pattering sounds on the roof and taps on the windows. I immediately stood up, but at the look on Ed's face, sat back down.
"It's just water falling from the sky."
"I don't think anything should fall from the sky." I shuddered and closed my eyes. I heard Ed get up, but I didn't know where he went.
Then the apocalypse happened.
Not really, but that's what I thought. Nothing else could be so loud and bright. Surely, the land and sky were splitting open simultaneously!
All I could do was run screaming in the direction I thought Ed went. "Ed! Where are you? I don't want to die! Ed!" I was sobbing pathetically, and my throat hurt from the exertion. My knees gave out and I fell on the floor in a heap.
Through my blinding tears, I saw a blond head poke out of a door. "Al? What's wrong?"
"I think there's been an earthquake and a tornado and-" I paused to fling my arms around his knees. "-I don't want to die!"
He didn't answer for a second. Then-
"Oh God, I'm so sorry…"
I hiccuped out a surprised, "What?"
"I shouldn't have left you alone. It's just thunder and lightning, but you never…" He knelt down to my level, pulling me into a hug. "I'm sorry."
I returned the hug, feeling lean muscles and hard metal beneath his shirt. "It's okay. What doesn't kill me makes me stronger, right?"
Ed nodded, smiling slightly. "I'll stay with you now."
A/N: Cute! I was going to make it a lemon, and I will if people want. I've noticed that lately, I've been writing a clean and unclean version of my stories…
