Summary: "When he was little, his mommy would tell him stories."
A/N: Never done something like this before, so please be nice. I don't own these characters..they are the property of Eric Kripke, the genius that he is!
When he was little, his mommy would tell him stories. Stories about princes and white knights in shining armor who always defeated the evil; always saved the one they loved. But as he was pinned to the ceiling, his belly slowly being ripped open, Dean Winchester realized those stories were just that. That this tale wouldn't be ending with a happily ever after. The look alone in Sammy's eyes told him as much.
"Sam," he forced out, the pressure building on his body. He knew what was to come.
Sam looked up at him as his blood dripped onto his face, tears of blood rolling down his cheeks.
The Yellow Eyed Demon smiled, "What is your choice, Sammy? It's over and you know it, but it doesn't have to be over for Dean. Come with me and I will free him. Pledge yourself to me and he will live."
Dean struggled through the pain, tried desperately to push himself off of the ceiling but the blood loss was slowly beginning to get to him. In his mind he screamed, begged for Sam to run, to leave him and get as far away from here as he could.
But Dean knew his brother better than anyone. He knew what he would say.
Sam turned to the demon, "If I go with you, he'll be ok?"
"I have no use for him. You come with me and you have my word that he'll live."
Sam looked back up at Dean, his own tears beginning to clean away the blood streaks.
"No," Dean pleaded, his voice gruff but weak.
"I'm sorry Dean, but it's my turn to protect you," Sam turned to the demon, his eyes dull, "I'll go. If you let him live I'll give myself to you."
The Yellow Eyed Demon smiled wider. He walked to Sam and placed his hand on his shoulder, "You have my word. I have what I want, Dean can go free. Now, come along Sammy, we've got much work to do."
Dean watched as the demon walked Sam to the door. Right before they would have walked through, the demon turned, his eyes locking with Dean. Suddenly the demon's voice echoed in Dean's head.
"You Winchester men are so gullible. Your daddy fell for my lies and now Sammy has too. Never trust a demon's promises. Sam will leave this place with me thinking that you lived, but soon enough he'll forget about you. It's time to pay the piper, boy. You've lost, Dean Winchester, and he is mine."
Flames silently burst out from around Dean's body. The pain was unbearable. Dean heard the Demon laughing in his head before disappearing forever with Sam.
As the flames licked his skin, the heat drying his tears, all Dean could think about was who would save Sam now. There was no one left.
His life waned; the darkness crept into his being, the light faded from his eyes. Dean Winchester was dead.
This story was over. There was no happily ever after. Not for the Winchesters…never for the Winchesters. The valiant knight had fought to save the one he so strongly loved only to lose the final battle, dying like his mother before him.
Because in real life, happily ever after is only for fairy tales.
