Note: This is not, in any way, canon with Evangelion. It's also very blatantly based on a idea by htgriffin over on Sufficient Velocity forum. Go blame HIM.
REI FORCE, GO!
No one knew why it happened. Some cosmic force acting beyond anyone's control? Something the Angels did? Even some scheme by SEELE, that had gone horribly wrong? Whatever the cause, the 'souls' that powered the Evangelion Units as well as the ones in the Cores waiting for possible pilots, were all suddenly and violently expelled. With no original bodies available to them, they went to the only 'open' place they could go:
The Reiquarium.
So now Ikari Yui (Mad scientist), Kyoko Langley (Madder scientist, slightly damaged), Akagi Naoko (very damaged to begin with) and at least a score of other Missing Moms, the bulk of whom are quite innocent/clueless, have found themselves in a new existence in Rei bodies. Bodies that are part Lilith, and possessed of both inhuman powers and inhuman instincts...

The meeting was hastily organized, the now possessed 'Ree' gathered by NERV staffers and the current Rei. Clothes were borrowed, and several of the women had improvised die-jobs so at least they all no longer looked alike.
"There's only one choice we can make: WE have to use these bodies' AT Field powers to protect the city," Yui Ikari said firmly.
"OH HELL NO," the women chorused.
"It's that, or a Angel combines with Adam and we're all fucked," Misato observed.
"Oh..." several looked thoughtful.
"Ikari, I am NOT letting you screw us over again," Naoko Akagi said flatly. She had bleached and died her new hair blond, which looked distinctly odd with a Ree's looks. She had also grabbed a lab coat from somewhere.
"If YOU want to take charge, feel free," Yui offered, gesturing to the mod of unhappy women they were now stuck with.
"Hmph," Naoko scowed.

"REI DEFENSE CORPS, GO!" Yui yelled, pointing dramatically.
"We are TOTALLY not calling ourselves that, Ikari." Naoko snarled as the group actually flew via AT Fields at the enemy.
"Naoko, you are TOTALLY a party pooper." Yui noted.
"Uhm, Angel is attacking," Kyouko reminded them all. Asuka's mother had died her hair red like her daughter, but still seemed fairly spacy. Still, you used what you had.
Misato sighed as they watched the Moms rush into battle, "We're hosed, aren't we?"
"Totally," Ritsuko agreed, still creeped out about her mother being back.

Meanwhile, at the home of one of the returned mothers...
"Mother, stop using AT Fields to clean! Floating stuff is CREEPY."
"But it's convenient!"
"NO. Bad Momma."
"Your Poppa is coming home soon. He's been MUCH more affectionate since all this happened... should I be worried?"
"OH GOD. I so do NOT want to know..."

"Where IS Gendo, with all this going on?" Maya Ibuki asked as the Angel exploded from the combined powers of the Ree.
"Hiding out. Can you blame him?" Makoto noted.
Maya thought about it and paled. "Oh dear...," she murmured.

The door Gendo was looking at was armor plate, inches thick. But he really didn't think this fortified bunker would save him.
There was a loud banging first, as heavy blows warped the metal. Then pale fingers dug in, peeling back the heavy door like it was nothing. Eeerie, glowing red eyes peered inside.
"THERE you are!" Yui beamed cheerfully.
"We've been looking all over," Naoko agreed.
"There's SO much we want to talk about," Yui added.
"And SO much you need to explain, too," Naoko nodded.
"Mommy..." Gendo whimpered as they grabbed him.

Notes: The problem with this scenario would be that most of the issues in Evangelion could easily be resolved with a army of super powered Ree. So THEN what do you do?
So unless I get a overwhelming request to do more, this'll probably be it.
