"Until the late shift."

It was one of the hotter days in the city of Zootopia. Mammals were walking about, trying to find ways to beat the heat, or heading to Tundra Town to try to cool down for a few hours.

For the ZPD, it was a matter of just trying to stay cool and hoping that their cars still had working air conditioning.

For one Judy Hopps… She was hoping one of her coworkers and friends was alright.

"Nick?" She called going down the embankment to the bridge she had found him under before. As she suspected, there was the fox lounging in a beach chair in the shade. A bucket of ice next to him filled to the brim with Root Beer soda bottles.

He tilted down his sunglasses giving her a grin. "Hey Carrots. Saved ya, a pop. Pull up a seat, we don't have to go in till the late shift."

Judy rolled her eyes but sat down in the extra chair he had nearby for her taking the soda as offered. "You don't have to spend that much time under here you know… People are gonna think you're living under a bridge."

"AC is busted in the apartment. This shade is cheaper than dealing with the crazy old landlord." Nick retorted opening one of the bottles handing it to her. He held out another container of blueberries. Judy smirked a bit as Nick rolled his eyes. "I know, I know their from the grocery store not your family's farm. Jude you need to hook me up with the proper connections!"

"You said the last time I was going home for a weekend that you were "super busy" and couldn't possibly make the time." Judy retorted taking a fistful of berries popping a few into her mouth to see how they tasted.

A bit sweet, but too bitter. "These weren't ripe enough Nick you got ripped off." She added taking a sip. "And you didn't wash them off."

"Judy their berries. What could possibly be in berries?" He asked as she opened her mouth. He held up a paw. "Don't even go there. I asked that last time and you told me ALL about that Vitaminamulch junk they pour over the corn."

"You asked me." She giggled leaning back. She had to admit, she never thought one of her best friends would be a fox.. But Nick was different. And he was also fun to tease about some stuff involving farm life.

Nick rolled his eyes. "I said "HOW DOES IT GET SO GOOD!?" And YOU decided to give me the dirty details while my mouth was too full to protest."

"Oh Nicky!" Judy laughed. "You thought I didn't plan that? You never wanna hear about where your food comes from-And I wanted a bit of payback for almost getting iced."

"Almost getting-JUDY! That was six months ago!" He tilted his sunglasses back up. "And mind you, you got to be made an honorary member of the Big family."

"And I didn't have to sell a Skunk Butt rug to do it-Don't make that noise, you KNOW he still brings it up whenever I go to see Little Judy."

Nick laughed a bit shaking his head. "Yeah, yeah. The old man is never gonna forgive me for that one I know it. I almost got iced just for that!"

"With me too."

"Good luck when he finds out about the corn."

"I'll tell him you made me tell him." Judy laughed before they rose their drinks in a toast. "Cheers to a boring day and a hopefully just as boring night shift."

"Or rather cheers to a boring day, here's hoping we get a grisly murder case tonight!" Nick exclaimed gleefully. Judy put a paw to her face.

"Nicholas Wilde do NOT hope someone gets shanked tonight!" She exclaimed throwing her paw in the air.

"I am NOT hoping someone gets shanked tonight. I'm hoping we get to solve how someone gets shanked tonight." He replied with his signature grin.

"Nick we are NOT going to get a murder case."

"Oh yes we are!"

"I hope we don't! How's that gonna look on our records?"

"Amazing!"

"NICK!"

That's my best friend. Nicholas "I WANNA SOLVE A MURDER" Wilde.

Wouldn't have him any other way.
