Secrets In The Wilde
Chapter 1: The Beginning
Written by thecrazystorywriter14 (old name: perrytheplatypus13)
Sorry for the important notice, everyone. I have created a system of bolds, italiacs and underlines that helps make the story more understandable. Here is the key:
Regular Text: basically everything in the story (Example: Carl walked down the stairs.)
Italicized Text: a character is thinking something. (Example: He's so intelligent.)
Bolded Text: The author is talking to the readers. (Example: Hello, guys. Jack here.)
Bolded and Underlined Text: Time Transitions. (Example: John's House, 3 PM
Bolded, Italicized, and Underlined Text: Character POV transitions. (Example: John's POV)
Hopefully this cleared up any confusion with the story. Please enjoy!
Police Graduation Ceremony, 8:00 AM
Nick's POV
Nick slowly grinned as he received his badge from Judy, shaking Mayor Lionheart's hand.
Mayor Lionheart grinned at Nick. "Congratulations, Officer Wilde. Hope you have a good time here."
He saluted, happy this day had come. He was very happy, and he was sure he would cherish this moment forever. He walked up to the podium, having feelings of happiness and courage, but at the same time, fear. Fear of what would happen next. He put his hands on the podium, ready to speak.
"Hello, everybody. My name is Nick Wilde. I am so happy and privileged to receive this badge today. The police force is a very intricate and difficult job. All you need is to have courage, happiness, and the most of all, is to love your job. The only reason I came here today is the person who changed my life forever, Judy Hopps. Thank you, Judy. And thank you, everyone else who has impacted me throughout this incredible journey. Thank you, and have a good afternoon."
Nick confidently stepped off the podium. Wow, I really did deserve this job. At first, I acted like an idiot, rejecting everything that Judy said. Now, she is my best friend.
He walked down the steps.
Both POV
"You did a great job," Judy said. "Hope you enjoy this job for the rest of your time here."
Nick happily moved past her, energetically entering his old van. He shoved the key into the ignition, and twisted the key to start the van. The engine sputtered, but failed to start. He cursed under his breath, twisting the key, unsurprisingly failing to start again. He stepped out of the van and opened the hood, discovering nothing wrong with the engine. He jumped back into the van, and spotted the arrow pointing at 'empty' on the gas meter. He jumped out, and walked up to Judy, his hands in his pockets, furiously curled into fists.
"Hey, my gas tank is empty."
"No problem. We need to get to work anyway, so let's jump in my van."
Zootopia Police Department, 10:00 AM
Nick sat beside Judy, in front of Cheif Bogo. The Cheif handed out assignments, such as undercover, swat, and a few others, until he begrudgingly got to Nick and Judy.
"Hopps, Wilde. Parking duty. Dismissed!"
Nick and Judy stared at the Cheif in confusion. Wait a minute. Parking duty? Is this a joke?
"Just kidding!" Bogo said. "We have reports of a street racer tearing up Savannah Central. Find him, and shut him down."
Savannah Central, 10:25 AM
Nick and Judy pull up to a red sports car, the street racer, and Judy confidently walks up to the car.
"Sir, you were going 115 miles per hour, I hope you have a good explanation."
The driver of the car slowly pulls down the window.
Nick walks up to the car, taking off his sunglasses. "Flash, Flash, 100 yard dash!"
Flash's smile slowly grows. "N-i-i-ck-k-k!"
Nick's POV Nick's bridge, 2:30 PM
Nick lays on his lawn chair, under the bridge, sipping his lemonade. Maybe I should give Judy a call. Nick punches in Judy's phone number.
"Do you want to go to a- let's say - Gazelle concert tonight?"
Nothing.
"Judy?"
Still nothing.
Nick hears a huge gasp. "No way. How?"
"They were handing them out as we left the Police Department today. You must not have noticed."
"Thank you, Nick."
"Don't thank me. Come to the bridge, 5:00 PM. Don't be late."
Nick punches the hang up button on his phone, then slips it into his pocket. Mission success. He confidently sips his lemonade, and grabs a magazine. I think it's time to start thinking about an apartment. He scans his finger down the page. Let's see. 805-552-APMT.
Nick punches the number into his phone. It rings twice, then a scratchy voice picks up.
"Grand Pangoline Arms. This is Michelle speaking."
"Yes, I'd like to rent an apartment."
"Name, phone number, and credit card number, please."
"Nicholas P. Wilde, 555-16-2234, and I'll pay there."
"Thank you. Please come within 2 days before your request is terminated. Our phone number is in the phone book."
"Thank you."
"Goodbye."
"Bye-bye, now."
Nick punches the hang up button on his phone, and slips it into his pocket. He lays down, to take a quick power nap.
Judy's apartment, 2:32 PM
Judy hangs up. Wow. A real Gazelle concert. And Nick is taking me with him. "Ah, Nick." She whispers, as she drifts off to sleep.
Nick's bridge, 4:35 PM
*BEEP* *BEEP* Nick's alarm blares, and he shoots up. Well, that was a half decent nap. He stands up, and walks to his old outhouse, and he walks inside and closes the door.
Nick walks out, his hands in his pockets, and folds up his lawn chair and props it up against the wall. He takes out his comb and lazily does his hair, then leans against the bridge to wait for Judy.
Judy's POV Judy's apartment, 4:40 PM
Judy shoots up from her nap. Judy smiles. Got to go to the concert. With Nick! She enthusiastically stands up, and runs to the bathroom.
Judy walks out, and throws on her blue sweater and black skirt, and heads out the door.
Both POV Nick's bridge, 5:00 PM
Judy strolls along the bridge, looking for Nick. "Nick! Nick! Ni- oh there you are, Nick."
Nick jumps. "Oh, hey, Judy. Didn't see you there. Ready to go?"
"Do you even need to ask?"
"Sure. Anyway, you look delightful today."
Judy's face flashes red with embarrassment. "Oh, Nick. You look so.. attractive." Judy hesitates for a moment. "Did I just say that out loud?"
Nick's face burns like a fire on overdrive. "Yes you did. Thanks. Anyway, if we don't go now, we'll be late!"
Nick's POV Gazelle Concert Parking Lot, 5:30 PM
Nick slowly pressed on the gas pedal, in front of many cars trying to find a spot. I knew I shouldn't have come.
Nick finally finds a parking space, and quickly claims it, almost hitting another car adjacent to theirs. Nick slams his fist o n the steering wheel in fury, then perks up. "Ok. Let's get in before it gets too crowded." Not like it already is.
Both POVGazelle Concert, 5:50 PM
Nick and Judy are standing in nearly front row, almost in front of Gazelle herself.
Gazelle says, "Good evening, Zootopia! Everybody put your paws up!"
She starts singing, and the cheering is huge.
The music sends Judy into a dancing frenzy. A little later, she hip bumps Nick, to tell him to dance.
Nick perks up. "Okay." He mumbles, and starts swinging his fists, eventually dancing. Ok. This song is good. I could end up enjoying it.
When the song ends, the cheering shakes the stadium like an earthquake break dancing. Nick does end up cheering, yelling louder than he had ever had before.
Judy looks at Nick in surprise. "So even you, Nick, are cheering for Gazelle?"
Nick brushes the comment off with a confident flirt. "Sure, but you were even louder than me."
Grand Pangolin Arms Apartment Building, 7:20 PM
Nick and Judy arrive at the Grand Pangoline Arms.
Judy waves, showing a smile. "Well, see you later, Nick."
To her surprise, Nick jumps out and locks the van. "I'm gonna rent an apartment here."
Judy is speechless.
Nick stares at her in confusion. "Judy?"
Judy throws herself into Nick, giving him a warm embrace. "Well, now we'll be neighbors!" She releases the embrace. "Hopefully, anyway. The guys next door just moved out, and that's room 264. Mine is 265, so room 264 is across from mine. But there is like a very small chance of you getting even close to me."
Nick's POV
Nick smiles, and walks into the apartment building. He is greeted by an old aardvark.
"Hello, my name is Michelle and this is the Grand Pangoline Arms. How may I help you?"
"I called earlier, about 3:45, to rent an apartment here."
"Name and phone number?"
"Nicholas P. Wilde, 555-16-2234."
The old aardvark punches in a few keys. "Ok. The rent is $23 a day, $161 week, $700 month, $8400 year. You can pay any way you choose."
Nick hesitates for a second. "I'll pay weekly."
"Up front payment, is $70."
Nick pulls out his wallet, and hands her a $100.
The lady counts up $30, and hands it to Nick. "Thank you." He says.
"Your room number is room 264." She places the key in my hand. "Complimentary delousing once a month." She points her bony finger at Nick. "And don't lose your key."
Both POV
Nick walks out, a confident and astonished look on his face. "You'll never guess this," he says to Judy.
"Tell me, Nick!"
"I got room 264."
Nothing.
Nick stares at Judy with confusion. "Judy?"
Judy screams so loud, it almost breaks Nick's eardrums. "No way! How?"
"Just a coincidence. I have all my stuff already packed at the bridge, so I just need to bring it here."
Nick starts to walk off. "I'll see you later."
Judy runs into Nick, again giving him a warm embrace. A few seconds later, she releases. "See you later."
Nick's POV Nick's bridge, 7:30 PM
Nick puts his police car into park, and hops out. He walks over to the bridge, and grabs his suitcases. I won't be living here anymore. He loads his stuff into the van, shuts the back door, jumps into the car, and shifts the car into reverse, and backs out of the parking lot, on the way to the apartment building.
Nick drives along the main road, the only thing on his mind, Judy. I don't know why I keep thinking about her. Probably because she is so cute. Nick slaps his head with his hand, chuckling to himself. "Why would I ever think that?" He quickly shoved the thought from his mind.
Nick pulls the gear to park, the police van coming to a halt. He jumps out, his hands in his pockets. He walks into the building, and brings out a moving cart. He quickly loads all of his belongings.
Grand Pangolin Arms Apartment Building, 7:45 PM
Nick pushes the cart out of the elevator, an walks to his room. He fishes his keys out of his pockets, and shoves the door open, pushing the cart to the side of the room, and plopping on the bed. I think I need a bath.
Nick manages to take his suitcase out of the enormous stack of junk on the cart. He unzips the suitcase and grabs some clothes, quickly retreating to the bathroom.
Nick peels off his stuffy clothes, and jumps into the bathtub. With one swift move, he adjusts his position and relaxes himself into a state of calming alleviation.
8:30 PM
Nick shoots up as the doorbell rang. Who could that be? He quickly hops out and wraps his towel around his waist before hesitantly swinging the door open.
Both POV
Judy is standing there, a cheerful grin on her face. As soon as she sees Nick, water dripping down his snout, her face quickly changes to an encroaching, embarrassed look. "Sorry, Nick. Am I here at the wrong time?"
Nick motions into his apartment, with a smug grin on his face. "No, no. I was just taking a bath. I'll get dressed and I'll be right out."
Nick walks out of the bathroom, and he sits next to Judy. "What do you want, Carrots?"
Judy looks at Nick with a famished, determined tone. "Do you mind if we go to dinner?"
Nick hesitates for a moment, then a cheerful grin ripens on his face. "Sure. And I know the perfect place."
Perfect Restaurant, 9:00 PM
Nick throws the van into park, and shuts it off. "You like this? The fact I actually brought you to one of the best restaurants in town?"
Judy snorts, and playfully punches Nick in the shoulder. "What's with what you said? 'The fact?' What's that all about?"
Nick confidently smirks at Judy. "Well, Carrots, it's because I don't go to these places very often. So you better enjoy it." Nick playfully flicks Judy on the arm.
Judy squeals in pain. "Stop it, Nick. You're gonna make a scene!"
Nick shrugs his shoulders. "If I make a scene, I make a scene. Let's go before it gets too crowded!"
Nick shoves the door open, and walks up to the usher's counter. "Table for two, please."
The usher politely motions past himself. "Follow me, please."
Nick and Judy follow the usher, who seats them at a nice table with a white tablecloth that is placed next to the window. Nick pulls the seat out for Judy, then seats himself. The waiter quickly hands out the two menus. "Can I order your drinks?"
Judy quickly scans the menu. "I'll have a water with a lemon wedge."
Nick sits erect, looking at the waiter. "I'll have a diet coke."
The waiter scribbles down the rest of the order, then waves her hand in their direction. "Your drinks will be here momentarily."
Nick scans the page, looking for something appetizing. Judy puts down her menu. "I think I'll have the spring salad. What are you having, Nick?"
Nick sets down his menu. "I'm having the herb crusted salmon."
The waiter arrives to serve Nick and Judy their drinks, both thanking her. The waiter takes out her note pad. "May I take your orders?"
Judy speaks first. "I'll have the spring salad with ranch on the side."
The waiter quickly moves onto Nick. "And you, sir?"
"I'll have the herb crusted salmon with your homestyle fries."
The waiter scribbles down the rest of the order, and shuffles off to the kitchen.
Judy sits in her chair, constantly catching herself staring at Nick. "He's so charming."
Nick stares at Judy in confusion. "Did you say something, Judy? Something about charming?"
Judy's face turns beet red, her knuckles sweaty. Did I really say that out loud? "No, that was nothing."
"Are you talking about me, Judy?"
"No."
"I'm sure you were."
"Okay, Nick. You are charming. And cute, too."
Nick's face flashes red with embarrassment. "Oh-oh-kay."
The waiter brings in the food. They both thank the waiter, and start eating.
Nick takes a bite of the delicious herb crusted salmon. Why would Judy say that? Is that normal? For a rabbit to call a fox cute? He finally gathers enough courage to say something. "Hey Carrots,"
Judy takes a bite of her salad. "What, Nick?"
"Well, I think you're cute and beautiful, too."
