Shower Scene Take 2
Mick rode the elevator up to the loft fairly bursting with excitement. Beth had been living with him for a whole week and he'd never been happier. In the past, he'd often felt depressed at returning to the sterile, so quiet it almost tomblike apartment. Now it was abuzz with the light and vibrant energy that was his Beth.
He opened the door, anticipating a warm effusive welcome. Yet the room was oddly silent. Taking off his jacket, he called to her.
"Beth?"
He moved into the kitchen, puzzled then alarmed by what he saw there. A bag of groceries from the little Korean place on the corner sat on the counter but Beth was nowhere to be seen. Several cabinets were open and on the floor lay a bottle that had spilled. But it was the thick red liquid liberally covering the counters and floor that had his heart in his throat. Only when he realized it wasn't blood did he calm down slightly.
The sound of the shower starting upstairs had Mick racing to the bathroom and flinging the shower door open. The sight of Beth standing under the spray fully clothed raised his alarm again and he stepped inside heedless of his own clothing. "Beth!"
It took her a second to push her dripping hair out of her eyes. "Mick?!" She exclaimed. "What are you doing?!" She eyed him up and down taking in him in.
"I might ask you the same thing, Ms. Turner." He replied as he reached around her to turn off the water. Inside, relief washed over him like a wave as he realized she was okay.
"I bought some of that hot sauce I like at the Korean grocery but when I went to put it up, the lid came off and it spilled on me. I got some on my face and in my eyes and it really burned! I tried to wash it off in the sink but that wasn't enough so I ran up here to get the rest of it off."
"Oh." Was all he could think to say. They both stood there dripping for several moments and suddenly Beth burst out laughing.
"I can't believe we're back in the shower fully clothed and dripping wet AGAIN!"
Mick gave her one of those little boy grins she so adored. "Well, it's not like it's the first time."
"Isn't that the truth?" She replied as her smile turned sultry. "Maybe this time, things can have a different ending. Still think we need space between us?" She asked as she grabbed a handful of wet shirt and pulled him closer.
"Nope." He replied as he reached behind her to turn the shower back on. As he moved nearer, he gave a contented sigh just before he kissed her. This time, his Beth definitely wouldn't be sleeping on the couch!
