"Yes?"
"...What is that?"
"A gift for Christmas," Kurama shrugged, smiling as he held the wrapped gift towards his lover, "Remember how Yukina and I talked about it? "
"Yes," Hiei squinted suspiciously, "but as I recall, this Christmas thing isn't for another three days.."
"True. But I want you to open it now, in case you couldn't make it to Genkai's fun little party," the old Yoko spoke with just a hint of sarcasm; after all, while Kurama hid it better, he wasn't much for large gatherings if there wasn't copious amounts of alcohol...
Hiei noted the playful glint in the eye, the tone of Kurama's voice...something else was definitely going on... "OK...right. fine." He tore the paper with vigour.
"...thank you, fox..."
Kurama beamed, clearly delighted in his lovers unexcited response. "Don't worry, " the fox chuckled, "It's White Elephant. A gift that is supposed to be useless, silly, or otherwise ridiculous. I don't expect you to wear it..."
As he said this, Hiei was already pulling the monstrosity over his head, grinning, "Look, the reindeer's nose lights up! Kurama, you shouldn't have! "
"UUm...Hiei... It's-"
"Very warm, I agree!" Hiei fell forward, tackling the kitsune onto the bed in a tight hug, "Thank you so much. I love it."
"Oh... You're welcome." Hiei was too cute when happy...
Unfortunately, it took until January to get Hiei out of it. And Kurama, somehow, lost the Ugly Sweater in the wash...
