The white light from Bellatrix LeStrange's wand smacked into Sirius' chest, knocking him off his feet and the breath from his body. He fell backwards, brushing past the curtain hanging from its arch, and knocked into someone else behind him, before falling hard on the ground. Pain exploded in his chest where the spell had hit, and bright light nearly blinded his eyes, but he threw a hand up in front of his face and rolled to his feet before LeStrange had a chance to strike again. Ignoring the now dull ache in his chest, he shook his head to clear his vision, brought his wand to bear, and froze. "Lily? Lily Potter?!"

The Death Eaters were nowhere in sight. Sirius was standing in a large garden surrounded by a crowd of people. The person he had fallen against turned out to be a young woman with long, thick brown hair and beautiful large eyes. She had, in turn, fallen into the arms of a young man with wild black hair and green eyes.

"James?" Sirius said, having trouble adjusting to the situation. "Oh, no! I'm dead, aren't I?"

The young woman took a step toward him, putting her hands up to her mouth. "Sirius..." she whispered. The young man behind her seemed frozen to the spot. She was dressed in a long, satiny white dress, and she had wildflowers in her hair. "You're alive!"

It was as though those words were the counterjinx for the Full-Body Bind spell on the man behind her. He ran to Sirius, who was still swaying somewhat dizzily on his feet, and hugged him, partly in joyful greeting, partly to make sure he was real, green eyes blurred with tears.

James Potter didn't have green eyes.

Sirius blinked and shook his head again. "Harry?" he said, trying to unscramble his brain. "I thought for a minute -- you look just like -- !" Harry stepped back, still looking at Sirius as though he were a ghost. Sirius looked again at the woman he had mistaken for Lily. She was, of course, Hermione. Standing next to her was another, somewhat taller, young man with blazing red hair. Ron Weasley.

A grayish-brown flash hurtled through the crowd, directly toward Sirius and barreled into him. "PADFOOT!" Sirius found himself the subject of yet another hug, this time from the other surviving member of the Marauders, Remus. "We thought you dead!"

Sirius shook his head. "Me too, for a second there!"

Remus gave his friend an odd look. "You've been gone for three years."

"Three years!" Sirius gasped. "So that's why --" he looked at Harry and the others that he had last seen -- moments before -- as fifth year Hogwarts students.

Harry grinned. "Welcome to my wedding."
