Kagome lay in the grass, the wind blowing strands of hair on her face. The stars were twinkling above her, no clouds in the sky to obscure her view.
She didn't bother to move her hair, her dark blue eyes staring straight, her mind blank. Kagome was letting her power flow out of her, and into the earth below her.
She could feel nature talking, singing, dancing. Goosebumps ran down her whole body as she heard the trees say her name, the wind sing of her long, and glorious adventure, and the animal's praise their saddened savior. The wind swirled around her, lifting her hair up, making her hair sway.
Kagome slowly stood up, and the wind blew at her back, seemingly pushing her forward. She stood still, until a orange fox tugged on her pant leg. Blue eyes blinked, and slim toned legs moved forward. The fox ran ahead, and through some bushes.
The trees sang, beckoning her, teasing her, telling her. "Come, come. This way, over here."
A leaf brushed past her cheek, and Kagome's blue eyes followed it till it seemed to disappear in the dark night. Her eyes dulled, a painful memory making her heart ache. The wind blew harder, making her stumble a bit.
Kagome continued forward, when she saw light in the distance, and a figure in the light, her feet quickened the pace.
The figure turned around, a sweet female voice called out her name in question. Kagome ran forward, till she crushed the person in a hug, tears gathering in her eyes.
"Kagome." The dark hair young adult felt arms wrap around her in comfort. "I know. Sh..."
Kagome looked up at Ria Higurashi, her lip trembling. "Hurts... It hurts."
Her mother hugged her more tightly, slowly sitting down on the ground, Kagome shaking. Ria pet Kagome's head, her heart breaking. Kagome had been so strong for so long. But there was only so long till Kagome broke down. Ria started rocking as Kagome finally let her tears flow over, though she was still trying to hold in her sobs.
"Why, mama? Why did it have to happen? Why can't I see them again? Why was it me who was the only one to survived?" A sob, another, and finally Kagome couldn't hold it in. Ria started to cry too, but her tears were for her daughter.
After the final battle, Naraku used the rest of his energy to make Kagome suffer, by killing the people who were precious to her in that time.
Kagome came home covered in blood not her own, her blue eyes the dullest of blues, and her heart crushed. The only thing keeping her sane, alive, was her blood family, they were there to comfort her, and to remind her they were still alive. But Kagome had nightmares every night, of Naraku coming back and murdering her family.
Kagome didn't get much sleep anymore. She graduated highschool, and grew distant from her friends, now she was in college, barely able to keep it together. Ria often stayed with Kagome during nights, but Ria would fall asleep and her daughter would go out in the backyard to lay in the grass, and watch the stars.
Kagome seemed to be more relaxed when she was surrounded by nature, something that brought her back to the days when she was camping with the Inu gang.
Ria didn't know what to do anymore, but she knew that, with her comforting, and effort in trying to make Kagome happy, that it would turn out well. Just not yet, but in time, everything would turn out okay.
So, I'm feeling a bit homesick, and I was looking up at the stars tonight when this came to me. It's a oneshot about Kagome, and what would've happened to her if the final battle turned out really bad. I was listening to some pretty sad songs while writing this, I almost cried while writing it too.
Read and review, tell me what you think.
