I don't own The Avengers. I don't even go here, I just have a lot of feelings.

Tony wasn't sure why Barton asked for the arrows. He wasn't sure why it was the first thing the archer spoke to him about once the dust had settled in New York. Why on Earth would anyone want arrows that turned into fresh lilies? Why was it so important that the archer shot one of Tony's tires as he and Bruce were driving away, just so Clint could ask for them? Tony figured the guy probably wanted to make an honest woman of Romanov or something similar, and agreed to the task, assuring Barton he'd have the arrows within a month's time.

They were simple to make, just a matter of rehydrating the dried flowers (use the moisture in the air as the arrow flew), and not having them burst into flames when the arrow casing came off (small explosives plus dry flowers equals fire, who knew?) Tony had them shipped off to S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters within two weeks.

And then came Agent Coulson's memorial ceremony. It was the first time all the Avengers were together since Loki and the Tesseract went back to Asgard. They all wore somber, dark suits for the occasion, except for Steve who wore his Captain America suit. It only seemed right.

No one said anything when Barton left the ceremony early to climb a tree, though Director Fury seemed annoyed. Tony assumed the guy just wasn't comfortable at ground level.

The ceremony was coming to a close, and Steve was the last to speak. He was delivering a long, heartfelt speech about sacrifice and bravery that even Tony had to admit was very touching as he comforted Pepper, weeping silently beside him. Steve ended his speech by putting a red rose on the fresh grave, crouching beside it with his head humbly bowed. As soon as the captain stood, however, there was an almost silent click from the tree where Barton was crouching, and then a whisper of air as an arrow was launched. Every S.H.I.E.L.D. agent had their weapons drawn in an instant, but there was no need. Immediately before the arrow sank into the dirt, it hissed as the casing came away to reveal fresh lilies falling slowly onto the grave, just as Clint had wanted. The agents slowly put down their weapons, and stared at the archer questioningly, but Clint simply turned away and sat down on his branch. As politicians and agents cleared out, the Avengers stayed, standing silently beneath Barton's tree. When Clint finally climbed down, they all shook hands and parted.

That night, Tony was in his workshop when his StarkPhone buzzed; a text from Barton.
