Unfortunately, the rain was really pouring now. Rose and Scorpius were caught dead middle of it. Their running figures were barely visible as the rain seemed to start hammering the rocks and cobble pathway, causing them to be dangerously slip-proof and drenching the two fifth years. Their trip to the quidditch pitch obviously didn't turn out so well.
They found shelter under a fairly large tree, having a moment's rest out of the heavy downpour. Rose was desperately wringing the water out of her now-too-revealing blouse and frizzy red hair. Once she realised that the rain looked like it wouldn't cease in the near future, she gave a frustrated huff and sat down next to Scorpius, who ignored Rose's annoying groans and took to watching the rain.
After a few more of Rose's complaints, Scorpius clearly mumbled, "You are a witch you know." He peered over at the gobsmacked red-head.
He smirked as he noticed the different emotions that flitted across her face in under a second. Her surprise turned into a brief glow of embarrassment then into one of complete fury. "I know that! But if you hadn't decided to forget your broom; and might I say, again; at the quidditch pitch, then we wouldn't be here in the first place! Honestly, we'll catch a c-"
"You didn't have to tag along."
His words were cool and clear, stopping Rose right in the middle of her infuriating rant. Her eyes darted to the Malfoy and turned to face in the direction where the castle stood.
"I know."
Nothing was said after that, they welcomed the silence that hung over them. Both teenagers were gazing at the castle of Hogwarts and delving into their own silent thoughts. Their strange friendship (if you could actually call it that) had intrigued many of the students. A Gryffindor and a Slytherin... it just wasn't common. Not since Lily Evans and Severus Snape.
It was evident that quite alot of time passed as the rain seemed to be in sprinkles now and the loud thunder ceased. Scorpius Malfoy got to his feet and stretched his long limbs, an hour or two definitely passed during their deeps thoughts. Rose glanced a look up and blushed, she was quite aware that Malfoy was one of the more good looking boys in school. Once he was satisfied, he glanced down at Rose and outstretched his arm for her to take. She gripped onto his damp sleeve and he helped her up, aware that her blouse wasn't so dry either. He cleared his throat and, with one last look at the Weasley, he set off toward Hogwarts castle.
Rose watched him stride ahead, staying behind for a brief moment. It didn't matter that he was Slytherin and that he was a Malfoy, it didn't matter what the rest of Hogwarts thought, Scorpius Malfoy was (and would always be) her "friend".
Smiling, she ran ahead and took Scorpius's hand out of his pocket, grasping it in her own warm one.
