"I'm back, Doctor."
The timelord looked up at Jack, whose eyes were still tear-stain and was trembling a bit more. Smiling sadly, the timelord looked down and fuss with the wires he was working on.
"It was the least I could do, Jack. I'm... I am so sorry I cannot change his fate."
"I know. Over the years, I figured out even if you had been there, Ianto still would have died."
The two stopped talking, as the Tardis hummed in the background. Finally Jack smiled, looking up at the roof.
"Doctor. Thank you," he said.
"Whatever for?" asked the Doctor.
"Forgiving me a chance to say goodbye."
