I don't own anything.
Danny thought his most terrifying moment of his life was when he went into his parent's ghost portal and his molecules got all rearranged. He saw now that he was wrong and that there were more terrifying things. The thing in question in this situation was perhaps what made it all the more horrific. It was himself.
Danny Phantom was a horror, a ghostly visage with Danny's face and Danny's mind. Not his heart, though, Danny had their heart. He had just assumed that when he separated the two, Danny and the Ghost, one would cease to exist. He was wrong.
It wasn't homicide and it wasn't suicide, but Danny knew it was at least fratricide, to kill one's brother, one's other half. Danny Phantom leered at Danny, and he felt more fear than twenty ghost portals, more fear than when he could not activate his ghost powers, but not as much fear as when he raced to the Nasty Burger only to realize he was too late.
"Is this how we do it?" an amused echo of his voice said lightly, while floating in front of Danny.
"I'm not afraid of you." Danny said, though his throat was dry and sore and his legs were giving out as he spoke.
The echo chuckled. "Silly heroism. You're not immortal, you know."
"I'm not afraid," Danny repeated, but he knew his body was betraying him as he slid to the ground.
"Really? Because you should be." The ectoplasmic energy was flaring around Danny Phantom and blinding him to all else. Yards in front of him, Danny knew that Vlad Masters was probably unconscious on the laboratory floor. Danny would have no witnesses.
Danny Phantom lunged on him. The pain felt like someone was crushing his bones. The darkness was enveloping him, the coldness and the uncertainty. Danny thought of nothing but the people that he had hurt. His sister, his parents, Valerie, Tucker, Sam. If he got technical about it, he could extend the list even farther. The school, the town, the employees of the Nasty Burger. People that his existence negatively affected. He was once Danny Phantom, he would forever remain Danny Fenton.
He saw it all, and in his last moments, he wondered if after all he learned whether he still believed in the afterlife.
