I'm working on a multi-chapter fic at the moment, but I've had about a million love songs (don't ask where those came from) flooding my brain all day and it was holding up progress. So I took it out on Danny and Lindsay. I figured they could use it.
--
"Danny, you're making me nervous," Lindsay said as she walked gingerly to where Danny was leading her.
"Just keep your eyes closed. We're almost there." He held onto her hand and continued to walk slowly away from their vehicle and further into the park.
Soon, they began to hear music. And people.
A minute later they stopped walking and Danny leaned in close to Lindsay to whisper in her ear. "Open your eyes."
She hesitated for just a moment, then slowly opened her eyes. When she looked out into the park, she smiled brightly. "Wow. Danny, what is this?"
There was gentle music playing and people everywhere. Some were sitting in groups at the picnic tables, some were sitting in pairs on blankets in the grass, some were dancing to the music. Everyone was happy. And they all definitely seemed to be in love.
"I heard about this a couple months ago. Apparently every few months, couples come out here to have this giant party. Most of the people here don't know each other. They just hear about it through the grape vine. But it's a good way for couples to make friends, or have a nice night out, or just be together. I thought you might like it."
Lindsay gasped at the sight around her as they began to walk closer. "This is beautiful." She grabbed his hand and turned to stand in front of him eagerly. "Please tell me you brought a blanket."
He cocked a grin and shrugged. "I might have brought one by earlier."
Lindsay eagerly kissed him and jumped back. "Lead the way."
They walked toward a large group sitting at a picnic table at the edge of the gathering. Danny leaned over and tapped one man on the shoulder. They exchanged a quick greeting, then the man handed Danny a backpack from under the table. Danny thanked him as he shouldered the bag and joined Lindsay again.
"Where to?"
Lindsay searched around for the perfect spot in the field, and directed them to an open area. Danny pulled a blanket from the backpack and spread it over the grass. He gestured for Lindsay to sit down, then joined her. They laid on their backs looking up into the night sky. Lindsay rested her head in the crook of Danny's arm and sighed.
They lay staring at the stars and talking for almost an hour before Danny sat up. He stretched quickly before rising to his feet. Lindsay looked up as he extended his hand down to her.
"Wanna dance?"
Lindsay smiled and sat up, taking his hand and pulling herself up. "Sounds perfect." As they danced, she smiled up at him. "This is fantastic. Thank you so much."
"You're welcome. Happy anniversary babe."
"Happy anniversary."
They continued to dance as the people laughed and talked and danced all around them through the night.
