Adam had like Joan from the moment he saw her. He hadn't expected it she had just suddenly been there. He'd gotten used to the fact that he was a nobody. He was just trying to survive high school along with Grace. He hadn't wanted anything but to survive the hell that was school and leave so that he'd never have to see people like Price again.

And then she had come. She'd called to him and suddenly he wanted something. He wanted her to notice him. He didn't say much to her but that was because he didn't know what to say. He didn't want to come out sounding like a goof. For the first time he wished he knew how to handle girls, how to come off sounding smooth or charmingo

And then by some miracle she did notice him. Adam told her thing he hadn't told anyone about himself and about his art. After all she was Jane and she had understood him. But he should have known it wouldn't last. With a few whacks of a chair she'd destroyed it all and she wasn't Jane anymore. Adam couldn't believe Jane could do that to him. She knew what his art meant to him and for a while he couldn't get beyond it. She'd destroyed him. Maybe it would have been better if she'd never noticed him. Then he wouldn't feel so broken and she wouldn't be so sad but this was what he had wanted.

All he'd wanted was for her to notice him.
