Trick or Treat
Disclaimer: I do not own Trigun.
"Now all you boys have to do is say "Trick or Treat" and you'll get candy."
The young boy eyed his bag questioningly, "Really? That's it?"
The woman with long dark hair nodded, "Yup, that's it."
The boy's brother frowned. "Why do you have to say "Trick or Treat", Rem, if we get a treat anyway?"
"It's just what you say. You shouldn't question everything, Knives, or else you'll be an old man in no time."
"Yeah Knives, we get candy and that's all that matters."
"That's the spirit, Vash." Rem said smiling. "Now let's get started!"
Both boys held pillow cases and followed the woman down the hall. Rem had felt guilty that the boys would not be able to celebrate the one holiday most children looked forward to (next to Christmas) and decided to make her own version of Halloween on the Seeds ship. She had asked each crew member to stay in their rooms and gave them each some candy to give to the boys when they knocked. She figured this would be a nice treat for them.
"Here we go, boys. Just knock on the door and say what I told you to."
Knives slowly knocked on the door and waited for the inhabitant to answer. When Mary answered the boys let out a hesitant "Trick or treat!"
"Oh dear, aren't you scary!" Mary said in pretend surprise. "What are two ghosts doing here?"
"No Mary!" Vash said lifting the sheet up and exposing his young face. "It's just me and Knives!"
"Yeah," Knives said copying his twin's actions. "Don't be scared!"
Mary let out an exaggerated sigh. "Thank goodness! I thought this ship was haunted." She winked at Rem and smiled at the boys. "I'm sure such great actors would like some candy, right?" She then dropped two fists full of candy into both the boys' pillow cases.
"Whoa!" Knives said looking at case. "It really worked!"
"Yeah!"
"Hey, let's to the rest of the crew's room and see if they give us candy too!"
"Okay!"
Both boys looked at Rem for her approval. As soon as she nodded, they both sprinted down the hall like lightening.
Rem leaned against the door frame, "Thanks a lot Mary...for doing this I mean."
"Sure, it's no problem." She smiled and looked down the hall to where the boys were now asking Joey for candy. "It must be tough for them. There's not a lot of stuff to do here."
The dark haired woman nodded. "Well," she said, pushing herself off the wall. "I better make sure Steve doesn't try to pull a "Trick" on them." She began to make her way, only to stop suddenly.
"Y' know Mary," she said turning around. "I know this place may not be the most exciting but...at least those boys have each other. I'm happy they at least have that."
Mary nodded and closed the door, but not before saying, "And you Rem, at least they have you."
(AN: A nice little one-shot for all your holiday needs!
I hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween!)
