So Long, Farewell
It was hard to admit this to Jacob, knowing that he'd already been left for a vampire once before.
It was hard for Leah to do this, to be the heart breaker instead of the one left with a broken heart.
She couldn't help it. She had fallen for Jasper.
Jacob no longer held her interest; he was too much the same as Leah. Jasper was… different. Something Leah had never experienced before.
She would tell Jacob now, so he wouldn't find out next time they phased.
"Jacob." Leah clenched her teeth and forced herself to look into Jacob's eyes. All the words she had planned to tell him left her, and she stood there in front of him, open mouthed.
"Yes, Leah?"
"I…don't know how to tell you this," she said truthfully. "I…I'm not in love with you anymore."
"Who is it?" Jacob forced through clenched teeth.
"Jasper." The voice didn't sound like hers. Too quiet, too small to be hers.
"I can never win against bloodsuckers, can I?" Jacob's voice was somewhere between sadness and anger.
"I…" Leah began, then lost her words and closed her mouth in silence.
"Goodbye, Leah," Jacob stated simply, walking away from her.
Leah watched until she couldn't see him anymore, until he blended in with the forest around him.
Once Jacob had disappeared from her sight, she let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding.
It killed her to say goodbye to Jacob.
But Jasper was her life now.
