Oh, Angel

I take your hand, encased in a glove.

And in your eyes, I see your love.

Is it for me? No, this I swear:

There are others far more fair.

Sing, you command me, and sing I do,

Hoping you'll see that I am true.

You reveal then a wedding dress.

This cannot be! Yet, unless-

I wake upon a bed of silk,

Far too fine for one of my ilk.

I remove your mask; oh, what a face!

My Angel is gone without a trace.

Oh, my Angel, can you not see?

I was only trying to set you free!

Under the mask I know you hide,

Yet I see the man that's trapped inside.

So here I stand, by my mirror,

Hoping you won't hear me whimper.

I know that I must now be strong.

I hope that I shan't wait too long.

Oh Angel, can you hear me cry?

I'm up here, screaming to the sky.

The stagehand hung upon the rafter,

And I heard your demonic laughter.

So this is what my actions caused;

If only I had stopped and paused!

But now you, in all your glory,

Have decided to end our story.

Angel, please, return to me!

Oh, you fool, you cannot see.

Maybe I am not the one,

But I can lead you to the sun.

I left a note in your Box Five,

Maybe now I'll feel alive.

I wake each day to naught but dread,

For inside, I am nearly dead.

I stand alone here, in the snow.

My father's grave begins to glow.

In the shadows, I see your mask,

My question then I dare to ask.

But approaching near, on his white steed,

The savior that I do not need.

My father he tells me you are not;

I know that, fool! He's such a sot.

He tells me I must sing Don Juan,

Or all of us will soon be gone.

I plead, I beg, I cry, I scream;

I live now in a broken dream.

The song begins, but who is this?

A voice like this should not exist.

Desire flashes through my bones,

I hear the dancers' fevered groans.

Why have I removed your mask?

Angel, that question, you must not ask.

I tried to save your life tonight,

And do what my heart knows is right.

The wedding dress I see again,

But this is now, and that was then.

With the veil upon my brow,

I will heal you, this I vow.

My friend now hangs upon the gate,

Why should he receive this fate?

His only crime was loving me;

Please, my Angel, set him free!

I will be your living bride,

If your lasso you set aside.

I seal my promise with a kiss,

And finally we're granted bliss.

We disappear into the night,

Silent as a Phantom's flight.

We live in love, we live in peace,

Your anger is at last released.

Angel, you have heard my cry,

And you have taught my soul to fly.

Holy Angel, in heaven blessed,

My spirit longs with thee to rest.
