A/N: Hey guys! This is my take on what Olivia and Fitz both obviously want..In my opinion. But, this is also for one of the biggest Scandal fans I know! ( KMe_ki) :)
Since I told her I'd try writing a Scandal fanfic and she talked me into watching Scandal and now I'm totally hooked..Thought I'd write a drabble as a thank you. So, here it is! Hope you like it! :)
I may add more to this later and make it into a multi-chapter fanfiction..with actual dialogue. If anyone wants me to add more let me know!
NORMAL
Being normal together. That's what they both had desired. Being with one another without the obligations of trying to impress or one up each other. Without his wife coming in between them and saying that "Olivia Pope was ruining their marriage."
Yet, the thing that neither Fitz or Mellie had failed to notice was that their marriage had died long ago. She wasn't the young girl in the freezing cold apartment who would lie down on their small bed and wait for the man she loved to keep her warm. What they both failed to realize was that Fitz wasn't the same either, he wasn't the man who had tried to tirelessly win an election. He was now the man in control, he was the one who would go to sleep at night with worries of how to fix the world and how to create peace amongst fighting countries.
So, maybe that's why they craved a bit of normalcy, trying to get back to what they once were while trying to step into the roles of being someone new, of having everything they did and trying so hard to fake appearances. When deep down all of them were dying inside to grasp onto the one thing they all had in common, wanting to be normal again.
Cameras and secret service workers followed them almost everywhere they went, news tabloids and stories written in the millions were printed every day and still, when the cameras were rolling while a speech was given or an interview was recorded. Like clockwork, Mellie and Fitz would fake it until they were behind closed doors. Both of them coming to face the truth, faking being happy had taken its toll on them and neither one could do it anymore.
Then, there was Olivia Pope. A woman who had shook up his world. Olivia wasn't just any woman though. A crusader for the good, a person who fought for everything she thought needed to be fixed. Yet, the only thing she couldn't seem to fight against, couldn't seem to shake was her attraction for the very handsome and powerful President of the United States. Because as much as she would deny it, as much as she would tell herself that she was over him and that their small love affair didn't mean a thing...She knew differently.
Being with Fitz had given her an insight into what her life could be like if she hadn't always buried herself into her work. If she always wasn't for everyone else except for herself. Maybe Olivia and Fitz could have a real shot at being together. So, maybe that's why Fitz words the night they were in the same room, talking about being normal had struck such a cord in her heart. "A man who isn't President has options. A man who isn't President can divorce his wife. A man who isn't President can have a life. The he wants, the life he's always wanted, with the woman he loves." Because somewhere in the pit of her stomach, Olivia knew that Fitz felt the same way as she did. Maybe he really did love her as much as she loved him. Although, their love came at a price. Their love for one another was formed on a chemistry and understanding for what they both personally wanted to have, a shot at being normal together.
