I do not own HUnger games/Catching Fire

Metal struck the dark black cavern wall. Chips of coal fell as a puff of dust rose into the air, and as soon as he took another breath, the thick black powder covered his tongue and face.

No matter how fast he ran he couldn't catch up in life. He was always reaching for something, trying to grab hold before it got away, and he was always too late. Daily, he would descend in that pit of misery, and daily he was anguished at being left in the dark while life passed by in the sunlight.

He just couldn't get caught up.

The world flew by him faster than ever. No matter how fast he ran, how hard he worked, how determined he was, he was always still trying to catch up.

Everything passed by as he took a breath, and blinked. He opened his eyes and the Hunger Games had flown by; trying to raise his voice to be heard and the baker boy stole the words from his lips on national television; his heart tried to stop beating and they were already home, the star crossed lovers of District 12. Then, the Victory Tour. The Proposal. The Whipping. The Quarter Quell announcement. The Pregnancy confession. The bombs.

Katniss.

He couldn't even catch up to her.

One minute they were just sitting in the woods, like they used to. Then she was slipping through his fingers, while he tried to cling to her. One word. One more word and he could have caught her. But he had fallen behind again.

It was like that before, too. If he could've caught up to his father that day, and told him their mother was ill, he might have stayed home. No, his father left him behind, while he ran, trying desperately to catch up.

He never really caught up to anyone, ever. But he could catch them.

His work was snares. He could catch anything, with a little silence, and patience, and determination.

He could catch anything with the proper trap; food, clothes, the baker boy, the Capitol, Katniss.

Life passes him by, but he would catch it. He just needed to set the right snare.
