Last of the Uchiha
Chapter 1
In Hell
Sunset descended on the Academy. All of the students had already left. All, that is, except for Sasuke Uchiha.
'For as long as I remember, I've hated the dark. It always makes me feel uneasy, but tonight especially. I can't explain it, but it feels like something bad is going to happen.' Sasuke gathered his shuriken that he had been practicing with, walking away from the academy. "Guess it's time to head home then. Dinner's probably getting cold. I really should stop being so paranoid. I wonder what Mother made tonight?"
Two figures stood outside of the Uchiha District. It would be the last time either of them would see it like this. By morning, everyone inside of it would be dead. Everyone, except for Sasuke. "Itachi, are you ready? I believe you know what will happen if Danzo finds out that you failed to carry out his orders."
"I know. The only reason he is agreeing to spare Sasuke is because he believes he'll never find out the truth. And I plan to make sure of that. Madara, if you tell him, I will kill you." Itachi glared at his partner-in-crime.
"Of course. So, if he kills you, you'll be satisfied?" Itachi could have sworn Madara was smiling underneath his mask.
"Yes. Sasuke will be a hero. Perhaps, then, I can find some closure in what I'm about to do."
"Shall we begin?"
"…Yes."
"It seems like we don't get to see each other often anymore, Mother. Between my missions, your job as a civilian, and keeping in contact with Sasuke and Itachi, neither of us really have any time to ourselves anymore." Seated across from Izumi was her mother. The two of them were having dinner, blissfully unaware of their soon-to-be-killers walking down the hallway. And to the child who could never have been prepared for what he was about to see.
"Itachi!" Sasuke ran to his older brother, as he often did upon arriving at the district. Itachi merely stared at his brother, quietly muttering "Tsukuyomi," under his breath.
-Torture Warning-
Sasuke gazed up at the red sky above him before gazing downwards and realizing that he was the ground was some kind of body of water. And yet he was standing on it without sinking. The surroundings had all of the color drained from them. The only word Sasuke could think of to describe it was haunting. "What is this place? Itachi, what's going on?!"
"This is my world. This is the Tsukuyomi. Time, space, even physical mass, I control them all. Here, you shall witness the events to come. You will not be able to stop them here, not when they occur. You are doomed to witness them, helpless to change them. Helpless to change the fate of our clan."
Sasuke didn't know how much time had passed since he entered the Tsukuyomi, but he now felt as if he wanted to die. At least that way, he wouldn't have had to experience this horror. Mother and Father, stabbed through the chest. Auntie and Uncle, cut in half. Shisui's parents, throats slit. The Police Force, killed by the man in the mask. And one of the most daunting ones of all. Izumi, formerly unmarked skin marred by numerous cuts, as the man with the mask stood over her lifeless body, cloak stained with her blood, which was dripping from the kunai he held in his hand. Sasuke's earlier description of the Tsukuyomi was wrong. He knew that now. This place wasn't haunting. Not at all. Even hell didn't describe it. He'd rather be in hell right now. At least hell wouldn't be this painful. At least in hell, he wouldn't have to witness these atrocities over and over and over again, like a broken record, just repeating the same thing. At least in hell, he would be reunited with his family. Itachi then approached his younger brother. He raised his katana over his head. "Goodbye, my foolish younger brother."
-Torture End-
"NO! ITACHI, YOU HAVE TO STOP!" It was at that point that Sasuke realized he was back in the real world, lying on his side, panting heavily, drool oozing from the edges of his mouth. He could barely manage to speak. Out of the edge of his peripheral vision, he could barely make out the door opening, as a girl with brown hair came through it. He couldn't make out if it was Izumi or her mother. "Why… Big brother?" That was all he could say before passing out. Unbeknownst to him, however, when he was conscious, his eyes had taken on the distinct ruby red color that his clan was so famous for.
"Itachi, what's gotten into you?! Why did you do that to Sasuke?!" Izumi was checking the young boy for injuries.
"You can ask him yourself. The only thing that I can find comfort in throughout this entire ordeal, is that you will be going to the same place as him. But where you go, I cannot follow. I'm sorry, Izumi." Itachi shoved his katana through her chest with one quick thrust. He knelt down, whispering his last words to her in her ear. "I love you, Izumi Uchiha. If things had turned out differently, I would have been happy to have had you as my wife. Goodbye."
"I…ta…chi…" Izumi collapsed, eyes still open from shock. Itachi respectfully closed them, as a last act of kindness to the woman he loved. He grabbed a piece of paper, wrote down specific instructions on it, rolled it up, and placed it in Sasuke's shuriken holster, before leaving with Madara. Shortly afterwards, unbeknownst to either of the two, Izumi's hand began to twitch.
So, it's been a while, huh? Two small changes are going to make a pretty large impact on the story from here on in. C'ya next time.
