1. Resting on a shoulder Untroubled sleep
Roy Mustang was annoyed at having to share the cramped room of his car with others, especially Edward Elric. I wasn't that he minded the kid; Roy liked Ed, though he'd never admit it to his face. The problem was that Ed did not like the Colonel, and was currently muttering obscenities under his breath, and aggressively imposing on the colonel's personal space. They were driving to Rizenbul (Havoc driving, and Hawkeye sitting shotgun as usual), and Roy had had to put up with this for an hour already. He shifted a little, trying to get comfortable, and turned to look out the window to his left. "God Taisa," Ed muttered angrily, "You could try and not take up more than you're share of space," and elbowed him sharply in the side. Roy stared hard out the window, and bit his tong in an effort to keep silent. Why did he put up with this brat again? "I'm sorry Taisa, brother gets irritated during long car rides" spoke up Al, apologizing for his older brother as usual. "We mean you no disrespect." Roy sighed.
They neared the little town in the late evening; long after the sun had set. Roy slid deeper into his seat, careful not to dislodge the boy that had fallen asleep on his shoulder. Edward looked so peaceful asleep; so unlike the angry haunted teen he dealt with on a regular basis. He stared thoughtfully down at the golden head resting by his own. He felt Al watching him, and looked up at him, almost defensively. "What is it Al?" "Nothing Taisa, it's just…" the suit of armor that was a little boy looked down "It's just that I haven't seen Ed sleep peacefully in so long. He's had nightmares every night since our failed attempt three years ago." Al turned away from the colonel, and stared out his window. Roy looked down a little disbelievingly at the youth sleeping on his shoulder, and then shifted so his arm was around Ed's shoulders, and the golden head was resting on his chest. The Colonel leaned his own head back against the seat, and closed his eyes. Maybe he could catch a little bit of untroubled sleep as well.
