"Gummi worms?" Dean nearly laughs at the look of pure confusion on Castiel's face. It is childish and out of place on the thirty-something man's face, but it is an expression that both Sam and Dean have become well acquainted with since the angel fell.
"Yeah, man," Sam responds, shoving a couple of the gummis into his mouth without even tearing his eyes from the laptop in front of him. When Castiel looks to Dean for further explanation, the older Winchester shrugs.
"They're… candy." The words are tentative as Castiel holds one of the worms between his thumb and forefinger.
Dean rolls his eyes and snatches the worm away, shoving it into his mouth and doing his best not to grimace as he chewed. Of all the snack foods for Sam to enjoy, it had to be Gummi Worms. Dean is not particularly a fan, but when Cas continues to stare at him- waiting for an assessment- he swallows and flashes his best grin. "Delicious."
The angel's brow creases in a way that lets Dean know that Castiel knows he is lying, but Cas picks up another worm. Glancing at Dean nervously, he sucks the thing into his mouth and begins to chew. There is a split second of analysis when Cas tilts his head ever so slightly and closes his eyes, then his mouth draws into a frown. "It's stuck to my teeth," he complains after swallowing, immediately digging a finger into his mouth after the gummi.
Sam laughs and grabs another handful of gummi worms. "Amateur," he states as he fills his gigantic mouth again. Even Dean winces away from the sight, choosing instead to watch the former angel try to free his mouth from the gummi-siege.
"Why would you eat those?" Castiel's voice is muffled by the hand that he has shoved in his mouth, so Dean reaches forward and tugs his wrist.
"Why are you eating your hand?" he counters, his tone that of a chastising parent. "Look, just suck on your teeth for a little bit and you'll be gummi free." The look of concentration that furrows the angel's brow is priceless; his nose scrunches up, his cheeks suck in and his eyes focus on a point on the motel ceiling. Sometimes Dean forgets how utterly inhuman Cas is, but then a moment like this comes along. "I take it you're not a fan of the Worms?"
He has to rearrange his face before answering, but it simply moves from concentration to distaste. "I do not find them as enjoyable as Sam seems to," he answers simply, as if afraid that Sam will react violently to his disproval. Sam gives one heave of his massive shoulders, still working on the handful of worms he had shoved into his mouth earlier. Dean laughs and shakes his head, settling back on to the bed and returning to the research he had neglected to give Cas another "human lesson". A moment passes before he realizes that Castiel is still looking at him, not that being stared at by Cas isn't a common occurrence. He lowers the book and raises an eyebrow. "What?"
"You don't like Gummi worms," Castiel observes tentatively. A question and a statement all in one.
Dean stares at him for a moment, their eye contact unwavering in the way that only they've achieved without awkwardness, before reaching out and patting the other man on the thigh. "Looks like we've got something in common, buddy." He tries to ignore the smirk on Sam's face, lets it get overshadowed by the proud gleam in Castiel's eyes.
A/N: I asked for recommendations for what to write about and someone said gummi worms... this is what happened *shrug* If Sam seems a little bit like gummi-obsessed Jared, that is not my fault xD
