Just a little one shot :)
Hope you enjoy! x
"Can't you read?"
What is she talking about, of course I can read! The Doctor thought angrily. He followed Rivers line of sight and realised what he was holding onto. The cot. My cot. So what, she was me from the future? It would be quite like me to flirt with myself. I am outstandingly extraordinary if I do say so myself. He thought. But it was never that simple with River. You always had to read between the lines.
It clicked for him then. And he didn't know what to think. His body was filled with mixed emotions. Relief, happiness, confusion, and phenomenonation…Is that a word? He thought. Then it really hit him. And he couldn't believe it! She had successfully outsmarted him! And made him speechless! It was so unreal, so unpredictable, so fantastic! Not even he saw that one coming. But Sexy did. The only water in the forest is the river. Good old Sexy!
The rage the Doctor felt was instantly drained from his body, only to leave awe and a huge curiosity. Oh, and something rather nervous as well. He began to smile awkwardly and shyly greeted her.
It was odd, seconds ago; she was a menacing stranger, but now, she seemed so harmless and familiar.
Melody Pond. River Song. How had he not seen that? The Doctor laughed giddily as he remembered everything he ever said to River Song. Now everything now made sense. But he had flirted with her! And she was their daughter!
"But we…" The Doctor made a kissing impression.
"Yes." River said. Was it wrong that he found that seductive?
He laughed wildly and turned around to look at Amy and Rory. Confusion was written all over their faces. There were feelings inside his body that he could not understand, but altogether, they formed a warm bubble inside him, which he concluded was rather pleasant.
He no longer saw the woman in front of him as threatening as he used to. Only hours ago, he had held her in his arms. A tiny baby. One minute she was a child, the next, a grown woman. She was in more than one way, just like her mother. But now he had seen her as a baby, she would always be that to him now. Delicate and fragile.
But she wouldn't be Melody Pond. She would remain River Song. With a bad childhood and no parents. But he could change that. He would change that. And he knew exactly how to do that.
So, with another laugh, the Doctor bade his farewells and told the young upset couple he knew where to find their daughter, while avoiding eye contact. Then he ran towards the TARDIS, still smiling with joy and relief.
It would be best, he figured, if he wasn't there when River told her parents who she was. That's one bombshell he'd be happy to miss. He doubted they'd be too pleased with him when they realised their daughter had been making dirty comments to him." I'm quite the screamer." Yep, he would be happy to put off the awkward conversation with Rory – the dad – when he warned the Doctor against hurting River.
River. Beautiful, magnificent, half Timelord – well, Timelady – amazing River. No wonder she knew everything about everything. She was almost one of his people. She could understand. His affection for her grew enormously at that point.
He opened the door again and smiled at her.
"You!"
He still could not process it.
He noticed Amy standing by the door, looking hurt and scared and it took everything he had to shut the door in her face. His possible future mother in law. Excellent. He laughed awkwardly whilst setting the coordinates and pulling the zigzag plotter.
Right. The Doctor thought.
"Let's go get our River back Sexy."
He laughed and pulled the final lever.
I'm thinking about continuing this where the Doctor goes and finds Melody, but I want to know what you think first!
Reviews are love :)
